Student answer (Band 6.0)

In certain countries, individuals are becoming more curious in learning about the history of the house or apartment they reside in. There are several reasons behind why they do this and how people can study about the same.

With the increase in the number of options available, real estate has started to hold a deeper significance than it earlier did.

In most countries, people believe that buying a house ensures stability and is considered an important milestone. People save and invest for years in order to buy a house which for most people, happens once in a lifetime. Lately, individuals have become more keen on finding about the history in order to ensure and reaffirm that the money put in is worth the investment. Additionaly, it is necessary to know why the people who lived in the house left it. It is crucial to know about the background of the locality and any precaution to be taken if there is exposure to theft. This could help the existing residents to beware. Moreover, there are another set of people who are interested in finding about the history to ensure there are no spirits since they believe in the power of energies. Additionally, any plumbing electrical problems in an old building could lead to more expenses which could turn out to be a bad investment.

In order to have be well aversed with the history of buildings people live in, they can firstly, have a conversation with residents who have been living there since a long time. Secondly, one can talk to street vendors and househelps in the area for a better and in depth clarity. Thirdly, one can read reviews on house portals which provide reviews left by residents who previously lived in the house/ building.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0

You address both parts of the question: you give reasons for researching a home’s past, including protecting a major investment, understanding why previous occupants left, and checking for safety or maintenance concerns, then suggest speaking with long-term residents and checking online reviews. These ideas are relevant, and the investment point is explained with some context. However, several reasons are listed quickly rather than developed—for example, the reference to spirits is not explained, and plumbing or electrical problems are mentioned without showing how historical research would reveal them. The research methods also need more detail and reliability: explain what information each source might provide, and include sources such as property records, local archives, or planning documents.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0

The response has a clear overall shape, moving from an introduction to reasons and then to research methods. Sequencing expressions such as “Moreover,” “Additionally,” and “Secondly” help readers follow the list. However, the reasons paragraph contains many different points in one block, so the relationship between investment, neighbourhood safety, beliefs about spirits, and repair costs is not always clear. Some linking is mechanical, particularly the repeated “Additionally” and the numbered “Firstly, Secondly, Thirdly” sequence. The final paragraph would be stronger if each method were connected explicitly to the kind of historical information it can uncover. Use clearer paragraphing and more varied links to show cause, contrast, or example rather than simply adding another point.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You use a reasonable range of topic-related vocabulary, including “stability,” “milestone,” “investment,” “locality,” and “residents,” and the main meaning remains clear. There are also attempts at more specific phrasing, such as “reaffirm that the money put in is worth the investment.” However, several collocations and word forms are inaccurate or unnatural: “curious in learning,” “study about the same,” “finding about the history,” and “in depth clarity.” “Househelps” is also not an appropriate term for the intended source, and “Additionaly” is misspelled. These choices make the expression less precise, even though they do not generally prevent understanding. Aim for natural combinations such as “interested in learning,” “research the building’s history,” and “gain a clearer understanding.”

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.0

You use a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, including a relative clause in “People save and invest for years in order to buy a house which…” and a conditional structure in “if there is exposure to theft.” Most sentences communicate the intended meaning, but some grammatical errors remain. For example, “there are another set of people” has a subject–verb agreement problem, while “In order to have be well aversed” contains an incorrect verb construction. The opening phrase “With the increase in the number of options available” is also left without a clear connection to the point that follows. Review agreement, verb patterns, and sentence boundaries, and make sure each introductory phrase leads into a complete, clearly connected clause.
