Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5

The response addresses both questions: it gives two reasons for interest in a building’s past—cultural heritage and renovation—and suggests research through neighbours, libraries, and online searches. The examples, especially the friend learning that an apartment had once been a school, make the methods relevant. The explanation of renovation is less fully developed than the heritage point, and the claim that people may preserve a home as a landmark could be clarified with a more specific example. The conclusion restates the main ideas, though it adds little. To strengthen the response further, explain more precisely why these motivations matter to homeowners and show how each research method can provide reliable historical evidence.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5

The essay has a clear overall structure: an introduction, separate paragraphs for reasons and research methods, and a conclusion. The progression from motivations to ways of investigating the past is easy to follow, and examples generally appear beside the point they support. Linking expressions such as “For example,” “However,” and “In addition” help guide the reader, although some transitions feel mechanical, and “However” does not establish a clear contrast between the ideas around it. Referencing is occasionally unclear, as in “they can preserve them,” where the pronouns do not clearly identify whether the writer means houses or historical features. Use more precise references and connect ideas through their meaning, rather than relying mainly on repeated signposting phrases.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

The response uses relevant vocabulary for the topic, including “cultural heritage,” “historical landmark,” “refurbish,” “old maps,” and “photographs.” These choices show an attempt to use topic-specific language, but control is uneven and several spelling and word-choice errors are noticeable. Examples include “preservance,” “asthetic,” “cultiural,” and “curiousty”; “these informations” is also an unnatural expression. Some phrases are imprecise, such as “making the house new” and “connecting people of that time.” These issues do not prevent the reader from understanding the main points, but they limit precision and fluency. Check spelling carefully and learn common collocations for describing historical research and home renovation.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

There is some variety in sentence forms, including conditional structures such as “if a person will know about the design” and a relative clause in “photographs that can help you.” The main ideas remain understandable, but grammatical control is inconsistent. For example, “Most people are becoming curious about the past of their homes or building they are residing” has problems with number, article use, and the construction after “residing.” The conditional “if a person will know” should use a present form after “if,” and “some people find about the past” is missing a grammatical element. Sentence boundaries and capitalization also need attention, as in the lowercase “some” after a full stop. Practise accurate clause patterns and proofread for agreement, articles, and punctuation.
