Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 3.5

The response identifies curiosity as a reason for researching a home’s past and begins to explain interest in how grandparents built a house and the materials used. These are relevant starting points, but the task is addressed only partially: the reasons are not fully explained, and the second question—how people can research a building’s history—is not answered. The example about rural houses is left unfinished, so the ideas receive little support. The response also contains 116 words, below the required 250, which leaves substantial parts of the task undeveloped. To improve, explain several reasons and give practical research methods, such as checking property records, local archives, or speaking with previous owners and neighbours.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 4.5

There is an attempt to organise the response with an introduction and a paragraph beginning “Analyzing the first main reasons,” and phrases such as “To be more clear” signal an effort to guide the reader. However, the progression is difficult to follow because the introduction promises both reasons and solutions, while the body only starts discussing reasons. The final example, “there are numerous house,” is incomplete, leaving the paragraph without a clear conclusion. Some linking phrases are also used mechanically rather than to show precise relationships between ideas. Use separate paragraphs for reasons and research methods, develop each point in a logical sequence, and ensure that every example is completed and connected to the point it supports.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

The response attempts some topic-related vocabulary, including “history,” “quality of bricks,” “rural areas,” and “grandparents,” which helps convey the general subject. However, the range is limited and several spelling and word-choice errors make the writing less clear, such as “intrested,” “hostory,” “relevent,” and “curosityto.” Phrases such as “fabulous” and “homes are very necessary for populance” are imprecise or unnatural in this context. Aim for accurate, specific language about property history and research, and check spelling carefully. More suitable expressions include “historically significant,” “construction materials,” “property records,” and “local archives.”

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.5

The response attempts both simple and more extended sentence forms, for example, “Because they like how their grandparents build that house,” but control is inconsistent. Several sentences lack a main verb or have incomplete structures: “Analyzing the first main reasons why many people interested…” and “In some houses the history of home is fabulous.” There are also problems with articles, agreement, and verb forms, as in “their house” after “people” and “grandparents build.” Punctuation and spacing are inconsistent, including the missing space after “fabulous.” Build accurate basic sentences first, then add subordinate clauses; check that each sentence has a subject and finite verb, and use past tense when describing how a house was built.
