Student answer (Band 6.5)
Nowadays, the interest of people in discovering the history of their residence has increased considerably. They are more intrigued by the historical importance of their houses or buildings. This growing concern is quite observable in some countries.
A compelling reason for this might be the fact that individuals living nearby the historically significant landmarks believe that their houses may be constructed on the land which is an archaeological site. Due to this, many questions pop up in their minds and to answer these mysteries they set out on a quest to find the background of their residence. This course of action is common among the dwellers who assume that they might find a historical treasure or some ancient artifact in the ground beneath their houses. For instance, many people living close to major archaeological sites claimed to have found ancient artifacts or treasures like old coins in their backyards which was later found true by the experts.
Other hand, many residents find some strange objects in their houses which excites them to research about its previous owners, sparking mysteries and hideous assumptions. Such concepts are inspired by the movies and various documentaries. For example, movies like Jumanji which demonstrated the discovery of a ancient game by a boy under the sand near his house and the Goonies in which a bunch of kids find an ancient map in their attic leading to a new adventure. Some optimistic and formidable individuals in desire to experience such wholesome adventures might research the wherabouts of their houses.
Moreover, Due to the assistance of advanced technology, searching the background of a place is no longer an ambiguity but has become rather easier and convenient. One can easily search on where websites or simply google to know about the history of their area and houses. People can also contact the previous owners through the house ownership records from their nearest townhall or even the neighbours who have been living in that particular area for a period now.
To conclude, it is quite natural for dwellers to research about the history of their residence and it is quite easy to acess due to the developed technological resources.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5
The response addresses both questions: it proposes curiosity about possible archaeological finds and strange objects as reasons, then suggests online searches, ownership records and asking neighbours as research methods. The examples involving nearby archaeological sites and films help illustrate the ideas, and the conclusion returns to the topic. This meets the task well overall, but some reasoning is less fully developed: the film examples explain how stories may spark curiosity, yet the link to people’s real motivations could be clearer. The research methods are relevant but would benefit from more specific explanation, such as consulting local archives or historical maps. More balanced development and support across both parts would strengthen the response.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5
The essay has a clear overall structure, moving from an introduction to reasons, research methods and a conclusion. Paragraphing generally helps the reader follow the discussion, and examples are introduced with phrases such as “For instance” and “For example.” However, some transitions are awkward or mechanical: “Other hand” needs a clearer linking phrase, and “Moreover” begins the research paragraph even though it introduces a new task aspect rather than an additional reason. References such as “these mysteries” and “such concepts” are not always precise, while the long second body paragraph combines several ideas. Clearer topic sentences, more explicit links between claims and examples, and tighter paragraph focus would make progression smoother.
Lexical Resource: Band 6.0
There is an adequate range for the topic, including phrases such as “historically significant landmarks,” “archaeological site” and “ownership records.” The writer also attempts less common vocabulary, but some choices are inaccurate or unnatural, including “hideous assumptions,” “formidable individuals,” “search on where websites” and “the whereabouts of their houses.” Spelling slips such as “wherabouts” and “acess” also reduce accuracy. These issues do not prevent the reader from understanding the main points, but they limit precision and naturalness. Prefer straightforward, accurate collocations—for example, “unsettling theories,” “determined people,” “search relevant websites” and “research the history of their homes”—and check spelling carefully.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.0
The response uses a mix of simple and complex forms, including a conditional clause (“individuals… believe that their houses may be constructed…”) and a relative clause (“neighbours who have been living…”). Most meaning remains clear, but some grammatical errors occur. Examples include “a ancient game” instead of “an ancient game,” “which excites them” where the plural “objects” calls for “excite,” and “many people… claimed… which was later found true,” where the reference and verb agreement are unclear. The opening phrase “Other hand” also lacks the required construction “On the other hand.” Review articles, subject–verb agreement and clause references, while continuing to use varied sentence structures.
