Student answer (Band 6.5)
In some countries, an increasing number of people are becoming curious about the history of the houses or buildings they currently live in. This essay will discuss the reasons behind this interest and explain how people can investigate the history of their homes.
One major reason is that individuals want to know the historical or cultural significance of their homes. This is because some buildings may have existed for several decades or even centuries, making them important parts of a community’s history. By researching their properties, homeowners can discover who lived there previously and whether the buildings were associated with important historical events. For instance, a homeowner might discover that their house once belonged to a prominent community leader who contributed to the development of their neighbourhood. Consequently, this knowledge can help individuals develop a deeper appreciation of their homes and preserve their historical and cultural heritage for future generations.
There are several ways individuals can search for information regarding their homes. They can speaks to the local authorities to inform them about the past records of their homes. individuals can also have a face-face interation with previous residents, communicate with local government to examine official documents and historical record. For instance, a house owner can consult the chairman of their estate about the origin of their buildings, as they may possess valuable information about its history. As a result, individuals can obtain reliable information about the construction dates and previous ownership of their properties.
In conclusion, it is essential that individuals have information regarding the history of their homes, and this can be achieved by consulting local authorities, speaking to long-term residents, and examining official documents.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5
You address both parts of the question and maintain a clear focus on why people investigate their homes and how they can do so. The cultural and historical significance is explained with a relevant example of a former owner contributing to the neighbourhood, and the research methods include authorities, previous residents and official records. These points make the response relevant and supported. However, the reasons are less fully developed than the research methods: the essay mainly gives one reason, and could explain other motivations, such as curiosity about a property’s age, ownership, or renovation history. Some research suggestions also need clearer explanation of how they would provide reliable evidence. More balanced development would make the response more complete and precise.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 7.0
The response has a clear overall structure: an introduction, separate paragraphs for reasons and research methods, and a conclusion. Ideas generally progress logically, and linking expressions such as “For instance” and “Consequently” help show examples and results. The conclusion also brings together the main research methods. Cohesion is not fully controlled, however: the research paragraph shifts abruptly between speaking to authorities, interviewing residents and examining records, while “As a result” does not clearly identify which method produces the stated information. The lower-case “individuals” after a full stop also interrupts the flow. Grouping the methods more deliberately and using clearer references between claims would make the progression smoother.
Lexical Resource: Band 6.5
You use an adequate range of topic-related vocabulary, including “historical or cultural significance,” “previous ownership,” “official documents” and “preserve … heritage.” These choices communicate the main ideas clearly, and some less common expressions show an attempt at precision. There are, however, several inaccurate or awkward choices that limit flexibility: “face-face interation” is not a natural expression, and “inform them about the past records” does not clearly convey the intended action. “Chairman of their estate” may also be too specific or unclear for a general example. Aim for accurate collocations such as “interview former residents” and “consult property records”; proofread spelling and word forms so that vocabulary attempts remain clear and natural.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.0
The essay includes both straightforward sentences and more complex structures, such as “This is because some buildings may have existed…” and the relative clause “who contributed to the development…”. Most of the meaning remains clear, but some grammatical errors occur, particularly in the research paragraph. For example, “They can speaks” has incorrect verb agreement after the modal “can”; “individuals can also have” begins a new sentence without a capital letter; and “communicate with local government to examine…” lacks a clear parallel structure with the surrounding actions. The sentence about a “face-face interation” also needs a grammatical construction such as “conduct a face-to-face interview.” Check modal verb forms, sentence boundaries and parallel phrasing to improve accuracy.
