Student answer (Band 5.0)

In this modern era, the rate of people are increasing who are becoming interested in finding out about the past history of the houses or buildings they live in. In the further paragraphs, I will give the reasons from my own experience.

According to my own knowledge, first cause is that people find something which are interesting about their home. If a person live in a old house, so he thought that he can find something exciting or suspense creating about his house which will give the little increase in his cost and reputation because, if he found something unique about his house so the demand of this house will increase.

Second thing I noticed is that, people interest is increasing because, they thought, they can find something fearful or bad about his building. Because they thought that, in this way they can live peacefully because, some people believe in evils or bad souls and it also exist according to my knowledge.

For example, my uncle believes in bad souls so he thought that there is a chance of evils in his building because it is very old, so he started investigating about his building, in this way he can live peacefully if he found something or not, in addition he did not find anything.

Third reason I ever feel, people becoming modern, they wanted to know something special and also they searching just for fun activity. In this scientific era, people wanted to know more and new about anything, so they found it a best way to know something extra because, in past people did not have that type of thoughts and even time to spend in finding something extra about the place in which they live in, so thoughts change by hand in hand in life.

To sum up the whole discussion, I think the three reasons are enough to justufy it.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 4.5

You offer several possible reasons, including curiosity about a home’s past, hopes of finding something valuable, fear of supernatural activity, and interest in learning for fun. The uncle anecdote gives one idea a personal example. However, the task asks both why people are interested and how they can research a building, and the second part is not answered: no research methods, such as checking public records, speaking to previous owners, or consulting local archives, are explained. The reasons are also often speculative or unclear, and the conclusion merely says the three reasons are enough rather than summarising a developed answer. Addressing both questions directly and explaining each reason more convincingly would strengthen the response.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5

The response has a recognisable introduction, a sequence of reason-focused paragraphs, an example, and a concluding sentence. Phrases such as “First cause,” “Second thing,” and “For example” help signal the order of ideas. However, progression is weakened by repetitive linking, especially the repeated use of “because,” and some connections are difficult to follow. The paragraph about fear moves from a general claim to the uncle’s example, but the explanation repeats the same point rather than developing it. The introduction promises reasons but does not guide the reader toward the two parts of the task, and the conclusion does not bring the ideas together. Use clearer paragraph purposes and more varied, precise links between claims and support.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

You use some vocabulary relevant to the topic, including “investigating,” “demand,” “reputation,” and “scientific era,” and you attempt to express ideas such as curiosity and fear. However, the range is limited and several phrases are unnatural or imprecise, which can make the meaning harder to follow. For example, “the rate of people are increasing” and “suspense creating” do not express the intended ideas naturally; “people’s interest is increasing” and “something mysterious” would be clearer. “Bad souls” and “evils” are also awkward choices in this context. Aim for accurate collocations and a wider set of topic-specific terms, such as “historical records,” “previous occupants,” and “architectural history.”

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

You attempt both simple and longer sentences, including clauses introduced by “because” and “if,” and the main ideas can generally be understood. However, complex sentences are often faulty, and errors in agreement, articles, verb forms, and sentence construction occur frequently. Examples include “the rate of people are increasing,” “If a person live in a old house,” and “they searching just for fun activity.” The long sentence beginning “For example, my uncle believes…” also joins several ideas without clear grammatical control. Practise building accurate sentences with one main idea and a correctly formed subordinate clause, paying particular attention to subject–verb agreement and articles. More reliable sentence control would make your reasoning easier to follow.
