Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5
You address both questions: you suggest that residents want to learn who built their home and what materials were used, and you mention asking neighbours or a previous owner and consulting a house map. These are relevant starting points, but the reasons are narrow and partly repetitive, and the research methods are not explained in enough detail. The examples about your neighbour and friend illustrate the topic, yet they do not clarify how the information could be verified or what a map can reveal about a building’s history. The response therefore only partially develops the task. To strengthen it, explain a wider range of motivations, such as preserving family heritage or checking a property’s age, and describe practical sources such as local archives or land records.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5
The response has a basic overall structure, with an opening, two body paragraphs and a conclusion. The paragraphs also broadly separate reasons from research methods, and transitions such as “To begin with” and “Beyond this” help signal movement. However, progression within paragraphs is often unclear: the first body paragraph shifts between motivations, building materials and an anecdote without clearly linking them. Connectors such as “For example” are repeated, and some references are difficult to follow, including “they” in the sentence about materials and “on that time” in the story about your friend. Organise each paragraph around one main point, then explain it and give a directly relevant example; use clearer referencing and fewer formulaic transitions.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
You use some topic-related vocabulary, including “traditional houses,” “materials,” “neighbours,” “owner” and “map,” so the reader can generally understand the subject. However, the range is limited and several phrases are inaccurate or repeatedly used, which makes expression less precise. For example, “searching out about” and “search about the data” are not natural collocations; “background history” is redundant, and “surviving with their families” does not convey living in a home. Spelling errors such as “contructions,” “appartments,” “mateials” and “manufacuring” also weaken control. Build a more precise set of phrases for researching property history, and check spelling and collocations carefully.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
You attempt both simple and longer sentences, including clauses introduced by “Because” and “if,” but complex structures are often faulty, and errors occur frequently enough to make some sentences difficult to process. For instance, “they can asked” should use a base verb after “can,” while “they can also used” has the same problem. In “the person whom they are buying the new house,” the clause structure is incomplete, and “they have been used” does not agree with the intended passive construction. There are also problems with articles, plurals and sentence boundaries, as in “the history of house” and the run-on after “house.” Practise accurate modal constructions, complete clauses and punctuation before adding more complexity.
