Student answer (Band 5.5)

In many countries, the number of people who are becoming interested in exploring the history of their houses or the buildings they live in, is insreasing significantly. There could be many reasons for that, like some people are passionate about finding out the history of anything because it is an area of their interest and some people take interest in finding out about the history of their own house or building because they want to see how other people spent their lives here and how modern situation of their house or buiding is shapen by the people in the past.

Firstly, there are many people who like to explore history as a subject related to their field of study, so finding out about the history of their own house help them in their study by exploring how people before us lived here and how they spent their lives here. They also create a comparison between present and past. For example, a person who is assigned a project to create a comparison between the present image of a specific area and its past image.

Secondly, some people are curious to know about the history of that place where they are living. Because several changes have been made in the past. For instance, a person who was interested in the history of his house, he made a lot of efforts and finally, he got to know that the place where his house is located, a private hospital was situated in this location before, which was demolished for some reasons.

People can research about the place by asking from their grandparents or someone who is the oldest person in their society. Other way, which can help in researching is through social media, although social media have all the information of the present world, but still, it has a lot to learn about the past.

In conclusion, people explore history to know their cultural backgrounds, to satisfy their curiosity and to increase their knowledge about their area of interests.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5

You address both questions: you suggest that people investigate buildings out of academic or personal interest, and you mention asking older relatives or community members and using social media. The examples about comparing past and present images and discovering that a hospital once stood on the site make the ideas relevant. However, the reasons are not always clearly distinguished or fully explained, and the research methods receive much less development than the reasons. The conclusion introduces cultural background and curiosity, but these points could be linked more explicitly to the examples and main explanation. To strengthen the response, explain how each research method could provide reliable historical evidence, such as consulting local archives, property records, or newspaper collections.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5

The response has a recognisable structure, with an introduction, paragraphs developing two reasons, a paragraph on research, and a conclusion. Sequencing words such as “Firstly,” “Secondly,” and “For instance” help readers follow the main points. However, progression is somewhat mechanical, and some connections are unclear. The sentence beginning “Because several changes have been made in the past” is separated from the idea it explains, while “Other way” does not clearly connect the research methods. There is also repetition of “history,” “people,” and “here,” which makes the flow less smooth. Use clearer links between each claim and its explanation, and organise the research methods into a more developed paragraph with distinct examples.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You use vocabulary relevant to the topic, including “cultural backgrounds,” “comparison,” “curious,” and “demolished,” and the reader can generally understand your meaning. There are, however, noticeable spelling and word-choice problems, including “insreasing,” “buiding,” and “shapen.” Some phrases are repetitive or unnatural, such as “finding out about the history” and “take interest in finding out.” “Social media have all the information of the present world” is also imprecise for describing a research source. Aim for more accurate collocations and a wider range of topic-specific terms, such as “historical records,” “property archives,” and “previous occupants.” Proofreading spelling and replacing repeated general phrases would make your ideas clearer and more precise.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

You attempt both simple and complex sentences, including clauses with “because,” “who,” and “although,” so there is some variety in structure. However, errors in sentence construction and agreement occur often enough to make parts of the response awkward. For example, “finding out about the history of their own house help them” has a subject–verb agreement error, and “Because several changes have been made in the past” is an incomplete sentence. The sentence beginning “Other way, which can help in researching” is also not formed clearly, and the long sentence about social media needs more controlled punctuation and clause structure. Practise building complete sentences and checking agreement, articles, and punctuation, especially when combining several ideas.
