Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0
You address both questions and give relevant reasons and research methods. Curiosity about a property’s past and the wish to understand its historical or cultural significance are clear, while checking records, asking older neighbours and using online resources answer the second part. The example about fears of black magic and spirits is relevant to why some people investigate, but it is introduced briefly and its connection to researching a building’s history could be explained more clearly. Likewise, the point about building connections with local residents needs further development. To strengthen the response, explain how each reason motivates people and add a specific example of what a research method might reveal.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 7.0
The response is organised into a clear introduction, a paragraph on reasons, a paragraph on research methods and a conclusion. This gives the reader a logical progression, and signposts such as “One major reason,” “Another reason,” and “In addition” make the structure easy to follow. The conclusion also brings the main ideas together without introducing a new argument. To make the links more flexible and precise, clarify the relationship between the claim about black magic and researching a building’s history, rather than leaving the reader to infer it. Some transitions are formulaic, so vary how you connect examples and explanations, and use pronouns or references carefully to make clear which “these” refers to.
Lexical Resource: Band 6.0
You use an adequate range of vocabulary for the topic, including “historical and cultural significance,” “first-hand information,” “digital archives” and “property databases.” These choices help communicate the main ideas, and the online-research sentence shows an attempt to use more specific language. However, some word choices and collocations are inaccurate or awkward, such as “interested on figuring out,” “government achieves” and “collect the informations.” Spelling errors in “activites” and “achieves” also reduce accuracy. Aim to learn common word partnerships and check spelling and countability: for example, use “interested in discovering,” “government archives” and “collect information.” This would make the vocabulary more precise and natural.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
You attempt both simple and more complex sentence forms, including the clause beginning “as people can access…” and the sentence explaining that older buildings may have cultural significance. Meaning is generally clear, but some grammatical errors remain. For example, “Some building or house were constructed” has a number-agreement problem, and “people can made” uses the wrong verb form. The sentence “Some building or house… there must be…” also joins ideas with faulty punctuation rather than a clear grammatical link. Review subject–verb agreement, verb forms after modal verbs, articles and sentence boundaries. More consistently accurate complex sentences would improve control while preserving the range you already attempt.
