Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 3.5

The response identifies two relevant reasons for researching a home’s history: personal interest in previous owners and wanting to understand the property’s value and neighbourhood. However, these points are only briefly stated, and the example beginning “For example, when are” is unfinished. Most importantly, the task also asks how people can research the history, but this is not meaningfully answered; asking neighbours or past owners is mentioned only in the opening and not explained. The response therefore addresses the prompt only partially, with ideas that remain very limited and underdeveloped. It is also substantially below the required 250 words, leaving too little space to explain both reasons and research methods. Develop each part with clear explanations and relevant examples.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 4.0

There is a basic attempt to organise the response: an opening introduces the topic, followed by a paragraph about reasons, and “Initially” signals a move into the discussion. The ideas are generally related to the question, but progression is difficult to follow because the response ends abruptly and the example is incomplete. Connections between points are also unclear: “While, few members think…” does not clearly show how this idea contrasts with the previous one. The opening mentions asking neighbours and former owners, but this method is not carried forward into a developed section. Use separate paragraphs for reasons and research methods, and connect each point with clear, accurate transitions and references.

Lexical Resource: Band 4.5

The response uses some topic-relevant vocabulary, including “history,” “past owners,” “value,” and “neighbourhood,” so the general subject is understandable. There are also attempts to express abstract ideas, such as “the importance of the neighbourhood.” However, the range is limited, and several spelling or word-choice errors reduce precision: “egarness,” “intrested,” and “sourrounding” are difficult to interpret, while “awarness of their livelihood” does not clearly convey the intended meaning. Phrases such as “past history” are also repetitive. Build a more accurate set of terms for research methods and motivations, and check spelling and collocations carefully so that your ideas are expressed naturally.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.5

You attempt both simple and more extended sentence forms, including “Some residents are very much interested to know about the past history, the owners that lived in.” However, sentence construction is often incomplete or inaccurate, which makes relationships between ideas unclear. For example, “few members think know of the detail” is missing a grammatical structure after “think,” and “For example, when are” is an unfinished clause. There are also problems with articles, plurals, and agreement in phrases such as “in few countries peoples” and “the owners that lived in.” Practise building complete sentences with a clear subject and verb, and check article use and singular/plural forms before adding more complex clauses.
