Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5
The response addresses both questions: it suggests reasons such as cultural curiosity, family connections, safety and property value, then names online sources, government records, maps, newspapers, libraries and conversations with neighbours or former owners. These are relevant ideas, but several are only briefly stated or unclear. For example, the point about natural disasters and future construction is not fully explained, and the claim that culture is diminishing does not clearly show why this leads people to investigate their homes. The conclusion introduces authorities encouraging and rewarding research, which is not developed in the main discussion. To strengthen the response, explain each main reason with a clear link to the question and add a specific example of how one research method could be used.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5
The essay has a recognisable introduction, separate paragraphs for reasons and research methods, and a conclusion, so the reader can identify its main sections. However, progression within paragraphs is uneven: the reasons paragraph moves from culture to previous owners, emotional connection, safety and financial value without clearly showing how these points relate. Some linking is mechanical or incomplete, as in “In addition” and “Consequently,” while “Such as research on online” is left as a fragment rather than connected to a complete sentence. The conclusion also adds a new suggestion about authorities instead of neatly summarising the discussion. Use clearer topic sentences, group related points, and connect each example explicitly to the main idea.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
The response uses some relevant topic vocabulary, including “historical events,” “government documents,” “previous owners,” and “elderly neighbours,” which helps communicate the subject. However, the range is limited and several word choices, forms and spellings are inaccurate or unnatural, sometimes making meaning less clear. Examples include “fascinated about know,” “ongoing trends,” “historic recors,” and “many informations.” Some phrases are also vague, such as “anything could be effect the building.” Aim for precise collocations and check spelling and word forms; for instance, describe people as “interested in discovering” a building’s past, and refer to “historical records” or “information” rather than using an incorrect plural.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
There are attempts to use both simple and more developed sentences, including the sentence beginning “Consequently, learning about the history…” and the clause “that may not recorded in official documents.” However, the range is limited, and errors occur frequently in sentence construction, agreement, articles and verb forms. Examples include “Both aspects will discussed,” “One of the primary reason is,” and “many buildings has.” The sentence “When it need construction in future” is incomplete, and several ideas are joined with punctuation that does not form a complete sentence. Practise building accurate subject–verb–object sentences first, then add subordinate clauses. Check verb forms after modal verbs and auxiliaries, plural agreement, and sentence boundaries during proofreading.
