Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0
The response addresses both questions: it gives reasons for interest in a building’s past and suggests ways to investigate it. Curiosity about previous owners and concern about the property’s condition are relevant, and the examples of a celebrity owner and an old property help illustrate these points. The research methods—government records, older neighbours, local historians and online archives—are also appropriate. However, some ideas are less fully explained than others. The opening claim that safety is a reason is not developed until later, and the point about historical and financial value could be linked more clearly to why people want to research a home. Explain each reason’s significance and make the examples more specific to strengthen the response.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0
The essay has a clear overall arrangement, with an introduction, separate paragraphs for reasons and research methods, and a conclusion that summarises the main points. Sequencing phrases such as “To begin with,” “Moreover,” and “In addition” help readers follow the discussion. However, some connections are mechanical or unclear. The opening sentence, “One of the reasons for this is that safety,” is not explained there, while the next paragraph shifts to curiosity before returning to safety and property condition. The example beginning “For instance, any citizen they go to the administrative of local council” is also difficult to connect smoothly to the preceding method. Group related ideas more consistently and use clearer references and transitions between claims and examples.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
The response uses a relevant range of vocabulary for the topic, including “previous owners,” “construction date,” “historical and financial values,” and “online historical archives.” These choices show an attempt to be precise and to use topic-specific language. However, inaccurate word choice, collocation and spelling are noticeable and sometimes make the meaning less natural: “numerous number of individuals,” “interested about knowing,” “histoirans,” and “seach online historical achives.” Some expressions, such as “possible structure problems,” are also imprecise. Aim to learn common word partnerships and check spelling carefully. More natural phrasing would make the ideas clearer and demonstrate more secure control of vocabulary.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
There is an attempt to use both simple and more complex sentence forms, including clauses introduced by “as” and “which,” and the main ideas are generally understandable. However, some grammatical errors affect clarity and control. For example, “might be possible that in which house they are living may be belong” combines incompatible structures and has an incorrect verb form. In “Knowing the age and history of the house it will define people,” the opening phrase does not connect grammatically to the main clause. There are also errors in articles, agreement and sentence construction, as in “there is highly chances.” Practise building accurate clauses first, then combine them using relative and subordinate clauses; check verb forms and agreement in each sentence.
