Student answer (Band 6.0)
In recent years, it has been seen that people are getting more engrossed in learning about the history of the house or building they reside in. There can be several factors behind this interest such as to ensure security, to know about previous owners, and also the urge to preserve the historic buildings. Residents generally ask around in the neighbourhood and inquire the real estate agents to do their research on the past of houses.
In terms of the reasons behind people's interest in the past of their residence, the most important factor is that people tend to ensure the safety of the place they are living in. They often attempt to learn about security-related history such as theft, robbery, unexpected fire incidents, illegal renovation of the building and other things that might bother them. By knowing such past, they can take precautions beforehand to avoid any repetition of these incidents. Furthermore, many residents wish to know about the past owners of the building and the reasons behind the change in owners. Lastly, people even focus on the cultural preservation of any historic and unique architectural buildings as they consider it as a part of their civic duty.
In order to do research for the history of a building, people often take two common ways. First of all, they ask around in the neighbourhood and the long-term residents who have the first hand knowledge about the building who can provide the most authentic information about the house. The second option for doing research is mostly asking to the real estate office who have introduced the place initially. In most cases, the real estates have the overall records of house, past owners and previous renovations. Individuals can take other way as well such as they might inquire the past owners directly about the house.
To conclude, it can be said that people often attempt to know about the history of their house for security reasons, personal curiosity, and also as a responsible citizen of a state. However, their options to do research can vary from person to person but most of the residents try do ask around for information

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0
The response addresses both questions: it gives several reasons for residents’ interest and suggests ways to investigate a building’s past. Security concerns are explained with relevant examples, including theft, fire and unauthorised renovation, and the discussion of previous owners and heritage preservation adds breadth. The research methods—asking long-term neighbours, contacting real-estate offices and speaking to former owners—are also relevant. However, some ideas are asserted rather than fully developed: the reasons for wanting to know about previous owners are not explained, and the preservation point would benefit from a concrete example. The conclusion repeats the main points but ends abruptly. Develop each key reason with a clearer explanation or example to make the response more complete.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0
The essay has a clear overall structure: an introduction, separate paragraphs for reasons and research methods, and a conclusion. Sequencing expressions such as “Furthermore,” “Lastly,” and “First of all” help readers follow the main points. However, cohesion is sometimes mechanical because several ideas are introduced through list-like transitions rather than linked through explanation. Some references are also unclear, as in “By knowing such past,” where the intended meaning could be stated more directly. The final sentence is incomplete in effect and does not provide a polished ending. To improve progression, connect each example explicitly to the point it supports and use pronouns and linking phrases only when their references are unmistakable.
Lexical Resource: Band 6.0
There is an adequate range of vocabulary for the topic, including “security-related history,” “previous renovations,” “authentic information” and “cultural preservation.” These choices allow the writer to discuss both motives and research methods, and the meaning is generally clear. Some less common expressions are used inaccurately or unnaturally, however: “engrossed in learning” is an awkward fit, “ask to the real estate office” is not idiomatic, and “the real estates” does not correctly name the businesses. There is also repetition of “building,” “house” and “research.” Aim for more natural collocations and precise terms, such as “property records” or “local archives,” while varying repeated topic words where appropriate.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
The response uses a mix of simple and complex forms, including relative clauses and purpose clauses, as in “who can provide the most authentic information” and “so they can take precautions beforehand.” Most sentences communicate the intended meaning, but some grammatical errors remain. For example, “the reasons behind the change in owners” would be clearer as “changes in ownership,” while “the real estates have” has a number/agreement problem because the intended subject is real-estate agencies. The sentence beginning “Individuals can take other way” also needs an article and a clearer structure, and the final clause “try do ask” is grammatically faulty. Check articles, agreement, and verb patterns, and proofread punctuation around sentence boundaries.
