Student answer (Band 5.5)

In recent years, a large number of people from different countries is developing interest in finding out about the history of the houses or building they live in. There are numerous reasons for which individuals need to know. In this essay, I will discuss the reasons and sources through which people get the information.

Knowing about the past of the house is important for landlord. It provides essential information related to neighborhood and facilities. When a new family moves into an accommodation so, they should have knowledge related to these things. For instance, if there is kidnapping issues in the vicinity so it would be difficult for a family who has children with them.

Furthermore, there are some financial elements included too. Families should have inquired the previous debts and loans on that house. Sometimes it has been observed that bills are on due. Newly shifted families have to pay those utilities bills. Due to this, many times innocent people suffer this. Few incidents have been noticed that old residents had some loans and they escaped without returning it. When new owners or tenants come and start to live they face difficulty.

On the other hand, neighbors and groups on facebook help the people in getting information. On different pages public help each other. For example, a person is interested in purchasing or renting a house. When he posts about the area or particular building so, people from that vicinity will connect with him and give a clear knowledge.

In conclusion it has many advantages . I prefer to say that it should be mandatory for all the owners to gather important information before moving to a new place. This may help them in various aspects.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5

You address both questions: you give possible reasons for researching a property’s past, including concerns about the neighbourhood and unpaid bills or loans, and suggest asking neighbours or using Facebook groups. The examples about families with children and new occupants facing old debts help make these points relevant. However, the reasons are not always clearly connected to the task: the discussion of kidnapping focuses on neighbourhood safety rather than the history of the building, and the financial claims are presented broadly without explaining how researching a property’s records would reveal them. The research methods are also limited to social contacts and online groups. Develop the links between each reason and the building’s history, and add practical sources such as property records or local archives. The conclusion gives a recommendation but does not summarise the main points. The response meets the required length.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5

The response has a recognisable structure, with an introduction, separate paragraphs for reasons and research, and a conclusion. Paragraphing generally helps the reader distinguish the main points, and transitions such as “Furthermore” and “On the other hand” signal changes in focus. However, progression is not consistently clear: “On the other hand” suggests a contrast, although the paragraph introduces a research method rather than opposing an earlier view. Some links between sentences are also awkward or unclear, particularly the move from neighbourhood facilities to kidnapping and from old residents’ loans to the difficulties faced by new occupants. Referencing such as “this” in “Due to this” does not clearly identify the preceding idea. Use more precise links and explain how each example supports its paragraph’s main point.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You use some topic-related vocabulary, including “vicinity,” “facilities,” “debts,” “loans,” and “utilities,” which helps communicate the general subject. There are also attempts at more formal phrasing, such as “financial elements” and “gather important information.” However, the range is limited and several expressions are unnatural or imprecise, including “developing interest,” “clear knowledge,” and “bills are on due.” Repetition of “house,” “people,” and “information” also restricts flexibility. Choose collocations that express the intended meaning directly, and use more precise terms for research sources and property history. For example, “property records” or “previous ownership” would make the discussion more specific. These word-choice and collocation problems are noticeable, though the main ideas remain understandable.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

You attempt both simple and more extended sentence forms, including conditional structures such as “if there is kidnapping issues in the vicinity” and a relative clause in “a family who has children with them.” However, complex sentences are often faulty, and errors occur frequently enough to make some passages difficult to follow. Examples include “a large number of people … is developing,” where the subject and verb do not agree, and “When a new family moves into an accommodation so, they should have knowledge,” where the clause structure and punctuation are incorrect. There are also problems with articles, plurals, and sentence boundaries, as in “In conclusion it has many advantages .” Practise building accurate clauses with one clear main verb, and check agreement, punctuation, and sentence openings before submitting.
