Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5
You identify two relevant reasons for researching a home’s history: learning how earlier generations lived and comparing past and present designs. The examples about your family’s former and current homes help make these points relevant. However, the response only partly answers the task because the second question—how people can research a building—is addressed briefly, mainly through asking older neighbours. The opening also refers to curiosity without establishing a clear, sustained position, and several ideas are difficult to follow or remain under-developed, such as how knowledge of ancestors’ lifestyles could help a family today. Explain a wider range of research methods, such as checking property records, local archives, or historical photographs, and develop each reason with a clearer explanation and example.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5
The response has a basic paragraph structure: it introduces the topic, gives two reasons, and then mentions a research method. This makes the main areas of the answer identifiable. However, progression within paragraphs is uneven, and the final paragraph does not fully develop the research part of the task. Linking expressions such as “one of the main reasons,” “another crucial reason,” and “for instance” are useful, but some connections are unclear or mechanical. For example, the link between learning about ancestors and “love in a happy family” is hard to understand, while the example about the old and new homes does not clearly explain how it supports the reason. Use a clear topic sentence in each paragraph and connect each example explicitly to its main point.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
You attempt topic-related vocabulary, including “ancestors,” “living style,” “design,” and “advance technology,” and you use some variation when discussing family history and architectural differences. However, the range is limited and several word choices or collocations are inaccurate, which sometimes makes the meaning difficult to understand. Examples include “people are fascinating in finding history,” “ancisters living style,” and “old habitat.” There are also noticeable spelling errors, such as “yhe,” “fpr,” and “ny,” which reduce clarity. Build a more accurate set of phrases for this topic, such as “research the history of a property,” “previous generations,” and “architectural features.” Check spelling and word forms carefully, and choose natural collocations rather than translating phrases directly.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
You attempt to combine ideas using clauses and connectors, as in “which helps them to know about the differences,” and you include both simple and longer sentences. However, the range is limited, and complex sentences are often faulty. Errors in verb forms and agreement appear in phrases such as “my parents used to lives” and “technology … helps people,” while sentence boundaries and punctuation are frequently unclear. The opening sentence is especially difficult to parse because several ideas run together without a clear grammatical structure. Articles, plurals, and sentence construction also need more consistent control. Practise writing shorter, complete sentences first, then combine them accurately with conjunctions or relative clauses. Proofread each sentence for a clear subject and verb, correct tense, and appropriate punctuation.
