Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0
You address both parts of the prompt: you give reasons for people’s interest and suggest ways to investigate a building’s past. The ideas about recognising a home’s value and feeling pride in its history are relevant, while online sources, books, libraries and older neighbours provide a useful range of research methods. However, the reasons are only briefly explained; for example, you could clarify what historical knowledge adds to a home’s value or why its history creates pride. The research example about Alexandria is more specific, but its connection to discovering the history of one’s own home could be made clearer. Developing these points with explanation or a concrete example would make the response more complete.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5
The response has a clear overall arrangement: an introduction, a paragraph on reasons, a paragraph on research methods and a conclusion. Sequencing words such as “Furthermore” and “One more source” help guide the reader, and the research paragraph moves from online sources to books and then neighbours. This meets the lower-band expectation of coherent organisation and shows some of the flexibility associated with stronger cohesion. However, transitions are sometimes mechanical, and the long sentence beginning “For instance” combines several actions and details, making the progression harder to follow. The conclusion also repeats the introduction rather than drawing together the main points. Use clearer links between each method and its purpose, and vary how you connect ideas.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
You use vocabulary relevant to the topic, including “historical references,” “origin,” “public library” and “comparison,” and you attempt some less common expressions such as “social competition.” This gives you enough range to communicate the main ideas, but several word choices and collocations are inaccurate or unnatural, sometimes making the meaning less precise. For example, “concerned to explore” and “a great history” do not express your intended meaning naturally; “researching about” and “a variety of sources” also need more accurate phrasing. Spelling errors such as “instace,” “noots” and “knwolage” are noticeable. Focus on learning common topic collocations and proofreading spelling and word forms.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
You attempt both simple and more complex sentence forms, including a conditional structure in “if their houses have a great history they will feel pride” and a longer sentence describing how to compare sources. The main message is generally understandable, but some grammatical errors remain. For example, “people always being in social competition” needs a finite verb, and “they can went” should use the base form after “can.” There are also issues with articles and agreement in phrases such as “the value of it” and “these information.” The long sentence about visiting the library and comparing notes would benefit from being divided into shorter, more controlled sentences. Check verb patterns after modal verbs and ensure nouns and determiners agree.
