Student answer (Band 5.5)

Number of people are increasing in some countries who are interested to find out the history of their house or building they are currently living in. The reason behind this is taking inspiration from movies .Individual can research this by taking to their house owner or neighbour.

One of the major reason for increase in people interest in finding out the history of their house is being inspired from crime and horror movies. Individual tends to do exactly the same as the hero of the movie had done which they had recently watched. If they had seen some investigating movie abou home, they would tend to do the same. For instance, a friend of mine had recently watched the movie about crime donein the heros house in past and now he is also collecting data from police record that any crime has been done in thos house or not.

One of the way to find out the background about your appartment is just asking out your house owner or people living in your neighbourhood. Talking to the neighbour and land lord will assist you to find out about the past of your building as they can tell you any past stories related to the house. Neighbours can tell you about the past crimes and activities done in your house. For instance, talking to my neighbour I came to know that my appartment had burnt last year.

In conclusion, a massive number of people in different country are being interested to find out about the history of their house. In my view, reason behind this is being inspired by some movies they had recently watched and one of the way to find out the past is to asking your neighbour and house owner.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5

You address both questions: you suggest that films inspire people to investigate, and that neighbours or landlords can provide information. The personal examples—a friend checking police records and your neighbour describing a fire—make the response relevant. However, the explanation of the reasons is narrow and not fully convincing: the claim that people imitate movie heroes is repeated without exploring other motivations, such as curiosity, safety, or understanding a property’s value. The research answer is also limited mainly to informal conversations, although the police-record example hints at another method. To strengthen the response, explain a wider range of plausible reasons and develop practical research options, such as local archives, property records, or historical maps, with clear supporting detail.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0

The response has a recognisable structure: an introduction, separate paragraphs for the reason and research method, and a conclusion. This makes the main stages easy to follow, and examples are placed alongside the ideas they support. However, progression within paragraphs is sometimes repetitive: the first body paragraph restates the idea of copying a film, while the second repeats that neighbours can describe the building’s past. Some linking and referencing also feel mechanical, particularly the repeated use of “For instance” and “One of the…” at the start of paragraphs. The conclusion largely repeats the introduction rather than bringing the two answers together. Use clearer links between claims and examples, and make each paragraph add a distinct point.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

You use enough topic-related vocabulary to communicate the main ideas, including “history,” “crime,” “police record,” “neighbourhood,” and “past stories.” There are also attempts at more specific expressions such as “collecting data” and “investigating movie.” However, the range is limited and several word choices or collocations are inaccurate or repetitive, including “taking inspiration from movies,” “house owner,” and “find out the background about your appartment.” Spelling errors such as “abou,” “heros,” and “thos” are noticeable and can distract the reader. Aim for more precise phrases such as “inspired by films,” “property owner,” and “research the building’s history,” and proofread spelling carefully.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

You attempt both simple and complex sentences, including conditional forms such as “If they had seen some investigating movie…” and clauses beginning with “as” and “that.” This shows an effort to vary sentence structure. However, errors occur frequently in sentence formation and agreement, and some sentences are difficult to process. For example, “Number of people are increasing” lacks a suitable article and has awkward agreement, while “One of the major reason… is being inspired” has errors in number and construction. The final phrase “one of the way… is to asking” also combines forms incorrectly. Practise accurate plural forms, articles, verb patterns, and sentence boundaries; then check each sentence for a clear subject and correctly formed verb.
