Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 4.0
You identify two relevant reasons for interest in a building’s past: curiosity about its history and a desire to learn about family origins. The discussion of older building designs also offers a potentially useful reason. However, the response addresses the task only partially: it does not explain how people can research a building’s history, which is a central part of the question. The reasons are also stated briefly rather than developed with clear explanations or examples, and the final idea ends without being completed. The response is 201 words, below the required 250, so there is limited space to develop the answer. To improve, cover both questions explicitly and support each main point with a practical example.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 4.5
The response has some basic organisation: it begins with a general introduction and then uses separate paragraphs to present reasons. Phrases such as “From my perspective” and “There is another reason” signal movement between ideas. However, progression is not consistently clear. The paragraph about archaeologists and old house designs is not clearly connected to the earlier explanation of curiosity, and the final sentence stops at “reasons lied,” leaving the argument unfinished. Some links between sentences are also abrupt, including the standalone “Because” sentence. Use a clearer sequence—introduce each reason, explain it, and give an example—and add a paragraph explaining research methods, such as public records, local archives, or conversations with previous owners.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
You attempt some topic-related vocabulary, including “archeologist,” “civilization,” “origin,” and “residing place,” which shows an effort to discuss history and buildings. However, the range is limited and several word choices or collocations are inaccurate, sometimes making the meaning difficult to follow. For example, “identical root” does not clearly express family ancestry, and “ancient theory of old house” is unclear. There are also noticeable spelling errors, such as “prespective,” “couricity,” and “exect.” Aim for precise, natural phrases rather than using less familiar words where their meaning is uncertain. Proofreading spelling and checking collocations will make your ideas easier to understand.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
You attempt both simple sentences and longer structures, including “Those questions insist them to reveal the actual fact,” but control is inconsistent. Errors in agreement and verb forms appear in phrases such as “many individual have” and “archeologist have invented.” Sentence construction is also faulty in “From where their ancient was came from,” while the sentence beginning “Because” is incomplete as written. These problems can make the intended meaning difficult to follow. Practise forming complete sentences with a clear subject and verb, and check singular/plural agreement and past-tense forms. You can still use complex sentences, but build them accurately—for example, connect a reason and its explanation with “because” within one complete sentence.
