Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5

The response addresses both questions: it gives reasons such as curiosity, property value and safety, and suggests researching through government records, local residents, online sources and newspapers. These are relevant points, but they are mostly listed rather than explained or supported. For example, the safety concern is illustrated with an old house, but the explanation about owners focusing on its structure is unclear, and the financial value point is not developed. The conclusion repeats the main ideas without adding a clear, fully developed answer. To strengthen the response, explain how each reason affects residents and give a specific example of how one research method could reveal a building’s past.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5

There is a recognisable overall structure, with an opening, separate paragraphs for reasons and research methods, and a conclusion. The reader can generally follow the two main parts of the answer. However, progression within paragraphs is uneven: the first paragraph combines several ideas in one long sentence, and the reasons paragraph shifts from curiosity to property value and safety without clear links. Connectors such as “Furthermore,” “however” and “In Conclusion” are used, but some are repetitive or do not express the relationship between ideas accurately. Use clearer topic sentences, divide long sentences, and organise each paragraph around one main point with supporting explanation.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

The response uses some relevant vocabulary, including “curiosity,” “structure,” “government officials” and “local residents,” so the topic is generally clear. However, the range is limited and several word choices or forms are inaccurate, sometimes making meaning difficult to interpret. For instance, “financial rate of that location” is not a natural way to describe property value, while “the event held in that house” is unclear in context. There are also noticeable spelling errors, including “curoisity,” “comparitively” and “theat.” Aim for more precise collocations and check spelling carefully; using terms such as “market value,” “historical events” and “building records” would make the ideas clearer and more appropriate to the topic.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

The response attempts some longer sentences and uses clauses with “why,” “if” and “when,” but control is inconsistent. Several sentences are joined with commas despite containing multiple complete ideas, as in the opening, which makes the relationships between points hard to follow. Agreement and verb forms are also frequently inaccurate: “people wants” should be “people want,” and “a house build 100 years ago” needs a passive form such as “a house built 100 years ago.” Articles and sentence boundaries also need attention, as in “the increased in the interest.” These errors can cause difficulty for the reader. Practise accurate simple sentences first, then combine ideas using controlled subordinate clauses and correct punctuation.
