Student answer (Band 5.5)

In this summary i will briefly explain why some people from different parts of world are becoming interested to know or searching out history about the location or building they live in.

As we can see the world is moving forward day by day while leaving a great history behind everything, old mysteries and civillizations about which we do not know with some kind of clues and riddles. Because of this many people love to know about that what was present there before the house or building to know the history or anything worthy/mythical about that location. Some people even think that there are a lot of royal gold reserves or ships or treasures to hunt which were never founded by someone but somehow they are under sea, specific land or any location they do not know about. Many people are fond of collecting antiques and ancient/valuable items and some are interested to know about their ancestors and background so they really want to know about their land and property assets to find the value or history probably hidden inside there.

People can research it by collecting the information from old people of that area to learn about what they know about it or anything historical they know that or have and by visiting the historical buildings and records of that location around nearby. They can also contact the historical or geographical agencies, professors or persons to learn about more of that area. For example, in Vietnam a person find out that there was a castle which was built there (in the place of his house) in 17th century during the portuguese and french rule and it also has some kind of ancient reserves underneath.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5

You address both questions: you suggest curiosity about the past, interest in ancestors and antiques, and possible hidden valuables as reasons, then describe asking local residents, consulting records, and contacting specialists. These are relevant ideas, but several are asserted rather than explained. For instance, the treasure-hunting point takes considerable space without showing how common or important this motivation is, while the connection between learning a building’s history and discovering its value is only briefly stated. The research methods are also listed rather than explained in practical detail. The Vietnam example is relevant in principle, but its specific historical claim is not clearly connected to how the resident researched it. Develop fewer points with clearer explanation and a more grounded example.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0

The response has a coherent overall arrangement: an introduction is followed by a paragraph on reasons and a final paragraph on research methods. This makes the two parts of the task easy to identify. Within the reasons paragraph, however, the discussion moves quickly from mysteries and civilizations to treasure, antiques, and ancestry, so the progression feels like a list rather than a developed line of thought. Some linking and reference are also awkward, as in “Because of this” and “about which we do not know,” where the relationship between ideas is not fully clear. The final example is attached to the research paragraph but does not explain the research process. Group related reasons and use clearer links to show how each point supports the main answer.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You attempt a range of topic-related vocabulary, including “civilizations,” “ancestors,” “historical buildings,” “records,” and “antiques.” These choices help communicate the subject, and some less common terms show ambition. However, inaccurate word choice, spelling, and collocation are noticeable and sometimes make the meaning less clear: “searching out history,” “royal gold reserves,” “never founded by someone,” and “ancient reserves” are not natural expressions in these contexts. “Location” and “area” are also repeated where more precise terms could be used. Aim for accurate, natural combinations rather than adding dramatic vocabulary; for example, describe “possible buried treasure” or “historical records” and check spelling such as “civilizations.”

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

You attempt both simple and extended sentence forms, including clauses beginning with “Because of this” and “which,” and the main ideas can generally be followed. However, complex sentences are often difficult to control, and errors occur frequently enough to affect clarity. Examples include “some people from different parts of world,” “know about that what was present,” and “a person find out that there was a castle which was built there.” These show problems with articles, word order, and verb agreement or tense. Several sentences also run on, especially the long sentence about treasures and antiques, making relationships between ideas harder to follow. Use shorter sentences when presenting separate points, and check articles, subject–verb agreement, and clause structure during revision.
