Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 3.0

The response makes a limited attempt to address the reasons for researching a home’s history, mentioning family memories and loneliness, but these ideas are not explained clearly or supported with a complete example. The second part of the task—how people can research the building—is only touched on in “reaching out their grandparents and more”; no other methods are developed. The response also ends mid-sentence, so the discussion is incomplete. In addition, the required minimum of 250 words is not met: the response contains 80 words. To improve, answer both questions directly, explain each reason, and describe practical research methods such as checking property records, local archives, or speaking with previous residents.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 3.5

There is a basic attempt to organise the response: an opening statement is followed by a paragraph beginning “Firstly,” and the ideas are broadly related to family and the past. However, the progression is difficult to follow because the relationship between loneliness, grandparents, and researching a building is not made explicit. The opening mentions one research method, but the following paragraph shifts to a different point without a clear link. The final sentence is unfinished, which leaves the paragraph and overall response without a conclusion. Use separate paragraphs for reasons and research methods, and connect each point with clear explanations and references so the reader can follow how the ideas answer the task.

Lexical Resource: Band 4.5

The vocabulary is sufficient to communicate a few basic ideas about homes and family, including “history,” “memories,” “grandparents,” and “take care of them.” There is some attempt to use topic-related language, but the range is narrow and several phrases are unnatural or imprecise, such as “more number of individuals,” “keen to know,” and “reaching out their grandparents and more.” These choices make parts of the meaning unclear. Aim for more precise collocations, for example, “an increasing number of people,” “interested in learning about,” and “ask older relatives about the property.” You could also use specific research vocabulary such as “property records,” “local archives,” and “previous owners” to develop the second part of the task.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.5

The response uses mostly simple sentence patterns, with a limited attempt at a longer structure in “For instance, our grandparents was always with our father and mother which gives them…”. Errors in agreement and verb forms are noticeable: “One of the main reason is” should be “One of the main reasons is,” “new generation is started feeling” needs a corrected verb construction, and “grandparents was” should be “grandparents were.” The final example is also incomplete, so its grammatical relationship cannot be understood. These issues sometimes make the intended meaning difficult to follow. Practise accurate simple sentences first, then add controlled complex sentences using “because,” “which,” and “for example,” checking agreement and tense in each.
