Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 3.5

The response makes an attempt to explain why people seek information about their homes, focusing on family connection, loneliness and emotional support. However, these points are only loosely connected to the question: the discussion of sharing meals and feeling like a family describes building relationships, rather than finding out a building’s history. More importantly, the second part—how people can research the history—is not answered. Meeting relatives and grandparents is mentioned, but there is no clear explanation of research methods such as checking property records, local archives or speaking with previous owners. The conclusion repeats the family theme without resolving both questions. The response is also 21 words below the required minimum. Address both parts directly and develop relevant examples to strengthen the answer.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 4.5

There is a basic paragraph structure, with an introduction, two body paragraphs and a conclusion, and the ideas within the family theme can generally be followed. Some linking expressions, including “To commence with,” “Moreover” and “In conclusion,” help signal stages in the response. However, progression is limited because the paragraphs do not clearly organise answers to the two questions. The second body paragraph shifts to caring for grandparents and gaining confidence, rather than explaining research methods. Connections between ideas are sometimes unclear, as in “Resulting, making them feel like a family home,” and “In another words” does not accurately introduce the next point. Organise the response around reasons and research methods, and use clear references and transitions to show how each point supports the task.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

The response uses some vocabulary relevant to personal relationships and family history, such as “emotional support,” “connections,” “struggles” and “confidence.” This gives the reader a general sense of the writer’s intended theme. However, the range is limited and several word choices or collocations are inaccurate, which sometimes makes meaning difficult to follow. Examples include “alot number of individuals,” “a emotional support like a family,” and “exploring there bond inbetween their homes and family.” Spelling errors such as “stressfull,” “occassions” and “confindence” also reduce accuracy. Build vocabulary specific to researching buildings—such as “property records,” “local archives” and “previous occupants”—and check spelling and natural word combinations.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

The response attempts some longer sentence forms, including “There is no one in their family to speak with and because of that they wanted to know about their family home.” Most sentences communicate a general idea, but control is inconsistent, and complex attempts often contain structural problems. For example, “Moreover, to get a emotional support like a family they start getting to make connections in their building” has an unclear construction, while “Along with that talking with them knowing their struggel stories makes them to achieve their goals” does not form a clear grammatical relationship between its clauses. There are also issues with articles, tense consistency and sentence boundaries. Practise building clear subject–verb sentences first, then add subordinate clauses, checking that each clause has a complete and logical structure.
