Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 4.5

You identify two relevant reasons—interest in a building’s age and nostalgia or attachment—and mention websites and historical institutions as research methods. However, the response addresses the task only partially: the reasons are repeated rather than explained, and the research methods are barely developed. The Rightmove example is named, but you do not explain what information it provides or how someone would use it; other practical sources, such as local archives or previous owners, are absent. The response is also 57 words below the 250-word minimum, with 22 words copied from the prompt excluded from the count. To improve, answer both questions in separate, developed sections and support each point with a specific explanation or example.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 4.0

There is a basic attempt to organise the response with an introduction, a paragraph about reasons, and a final paragraph about research. However, progression is weak: the third paragraph repeats the idea that old houses create historical interest and attachment, rather than adding a new point. The transition from reasons to methods is abrupt, and phrases such as “somehow” do not clearly show how ideas relate. The introduction also promises to discuss methods, but the body gives only a brief mention of websites and institutions. Use each paragraph for a distinct purpose, connect claims to explanations, and avoid repeating the same reason so the reader can follow a clear line of development.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

You use some topic-related vocabulary, including “history,” “nostalgia,” “renovate,” and “institutions,” and the main subject remains understandable. However, the range is limited and several word choices or collocations are inaccurate or unclear, such as “primitive belonging,” “pre history,” and “the richest website … to locate the history of houses.” Spelling errors, including “grwoing,” “intrested,” and “nostelgia,” also reduce accuracy. Aim for precise, natural expressions such as “the building’s origins,” “historical records,” and “research a property’s past.” Expanding the vocabulary for sources and motivations would also help you explain the topic without repeating “interested” and “history” so often.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

You attempt both simple and more complex sentence forms, for example, “One of the main reason people are intrested in finding about the history to know how old that building was so they can renovate accordingly in time.” However, sentence structures are often faulty, and errors can make relationships between ideas difficult to follow. Examples include “this trend become increasingly significant,” “the reason … is because,” and “how much old is the building,” which show problems with verb forms, clause construction, and word order. There are also missing spaces after full stops and inconsistent sentence punctuation. Practise building accurate sentences with clear subject–verb agreement and direct question clauses, then check each sentence for complete structure and punctuation.
