Student answer (Band 6.0)

An increasing number of people of several countries are becoming quite fascinated about inquiring the past stories of their home or building. I believe that people generally want to gather these information mainly to settle in much more comfortably in the place they live in.

The main reason of wanting to know about the past of your home is to get familiar with the environment and to settle in smoothly. For example, when I was booking my apartment, I thorougly inquired about the age of the apartment building, the neighbours, the past owners, etc. These information gave me a clear idea where I was getting into. Without inquiring, I could have found myself in situations which I may not prefer. Getting to know all these made my apartment much more comfortable to live in and helped me to settle down.

There are couple of ways we can research about the house. For example, we can talk with the neighbours about the pros and cons about the place. We can ask them if the neighbourhood is friendly or not. We can inquire about the distance of daily convenience from the house. Again, we can communicate with the local police station regarding the crime rate around the house. A safe neighbourhood should be the upmost priority for everyone and so we should not conpensete with that. Finally, we can personally go through the internet to find out about the history of the house.

In summary, I want to conclude that the key purpose of people interested in knowing about the history of the place they live in is to get comfortable. A known place brings in much more peace than a place that is unknown. By inquiring through various mentioned medium, we can certainly make our stay easier.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5

You address both questions and maintain a relevant central idea: people investigate a property’s past to feel more secure and settle in comfortably, and you suggest asking neighbours, contacting police, and searching online. The personal example about checking an apartment’s age and previous owners helps illustrate your point. However, the reasons are narrower than the task invites: the response focuses mainly on comfort and safety, while other possible motives—such as preserving a historic building or understanding its value—are not explored. Some research suggestions also need clearer links to the building’s history; asking about convenience or general friendliness is less directly relevant. Develop a wider range of reasons and explain how each research method can uncover the property’s past.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5

The response has a clear overall structure: an introduction, separate paragraphs for reasons and research methods, and a conclusion. Ideas generally progress in a sensible order, and examples such as speaking to neighbours and contacting the police support the research paragraph. This meets the lower-band expectation of coherent arrangement and shows some stronger organisation. To make the progression more consistently clear, avoid relying on repeated transitions such as “For example,” “Again,” and “Finally,” and use more precise links between points. In the conclusion, “various mentioned medium” does not clearly refer back to the methods; a phrase such as “these research methods” would make the reference clearer. Group the methods by source and explain their distinct purposes.

Lexical Resource: Band 6.0

You use an adequate range for the topic, including “inquired,” “crime rate,” “neighbourhood,” and “settle down.” These choices help communicate the main ideas, and the meaning is generally clear. There are also attempts at more specific phrasing, but some word choices and collocations are inaccurate or unnatural, such as “fascinated about inquiring,” “past stories,” and “distance of daily convenience.” Spelling errors including “thorougly,” “upmost,” and “conpensete” also reduce accuracy. Aim for natural combinations such as “interested in researching a property’s history” and “nearby amenities.” Proofread carefully, and choose vocabulary that distinguishes historical research from general checks about safety or convenience.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.0

You use a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, including conditional structures such as “Without inquiring, I could have found myself…” and a relative clause in “situations which I may not prefer.” Most sentences remain understandable, and errors do not usually obstruct the message. Some grammatical inaccuracies persist, however. For example, “These information” has a plural demonstrative with an uncountable noun, and “There are couple of ways” is missing an article. In “the pros and cons about the place,” the preposition pattern is not well controlled. Review countable and uncountable nouns, articles, and preposition patterns, then check each sentence for agreement and natural structure.
