Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 3.5
You identify a possible reason for interest in a building’s past: people enjoy history and are curious about how and when their home was constructed. The references to old designs, paint and students’ interest in seeing structures they have read about are relevant. However, the response addresses the task only partially. The reasons are repeated rather than explained or supported with a specific example, and the research question is not answered with practical methods: reading books is mentioned, but sources such as archives, property records, local historians or previous residents are not developed. The response is also 99 words below the required minimum, which leaves both parts substantially underdeveloped. To improve, explain distinct motivations and describe several realistic research methods with examples.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 4.0
There is a basic attempt to organise the response: the opening introduces the topic, the next paragraph gives reasons, and the final paragraph turns to research. This gives the reader some sense of the intended structure. However, progression within the paragraphs is limited, and several ideas repeat, particularly the references to history, old buildings and students wanting to see them. The final paragraph ends abruptly, so the research discussion does not reach a clear conclusion. Connections between ideas are also weak; for example, the move from people enjoying history to ventilation and old paint is not clearly explained. Use a clearer sequence, with one paragraph for reasons and another for research methods, and link each supporting detail explicitly to its main point.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
You use some topic-related vocabulary, including “ancient time,” “heritage,” “construction” and “structure,” which shows an attempt to discuss buildings and their past. However, the range is limited and several phrases are inaccurate or unnatural, sometimes making the intended meaning difficult to follow. For instance, “huge ventilation system” does not clearly express why historic homes attract people, and “history thinks” is unclear. There are also spelling errors such as “curiosty” and “reseacrh.” Aim for precise collocations and vocabulary that directly answers the question, such as “architectural features,” “historical records” and “property archives.” Check spelling carefully and avoid repeating broad terms like “history” and “building” when a more specific word is available.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.5
You attempt both simple sentences and longer structures, including a reason clause beginning “because” and a sentence explaining that people feel pleasure when discussing history. However, control is inconsistent, and errors in sentence formation and verb forms often make the message difficult to interpret. Examples include “In few countries mostly people became interested to find,” “when buildings and houses construct,” and “how they built and when they discuss history topic.” Articles, plurals and agreement also need attention, as in “these house or building.” Some sentences lack a complete or clearly connected structure, particularly the final sentence, which ends without a full stop. Practise building accurate basic sentences first, then add subordinate clauses while checking tense, subject–verb agreement and sentence boundaries.
