Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0
You address both questions by suggesting that people want to learn about their family’s past and by naming elders, neighbours and technology as research sources. However, the reasons are not clearly explained: the discussion focuses mainly on learning how earlier generations lived, rather than giving distinct reasons for wanting to know a building’s history. The research methods are also only partly developed; for example, you mention technology but do not identify useful sources such as property records, archives or local history groups. The conclusion repeats that people can find information without summarising the main reasons and methods. Develop each point with a clear explanation and a relevant example to make the response more complete.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5
The response has a recognisable structure, with an introduction, two body paragraphs and a conclusion. The paragraphs broadly separate reasons from research methods, and phrases such as “For instance” and “Moreover” signal examples and additions. However, progression within the paragraphs is sometimes difficult to follow: the first body paragraph moves from learning about the house to questions about income and family difficulties without clearly connecting these details to the reasons for researching a building. Some linking phrases are also awkward or repetitive, including “On the one” and “On the other hand.” Use clearer topic sentences and organise each paragraph around one main point, followed by explanation and a directly relevant example.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
You use some vocabulary relevant to the topic, including “history,” “structure,” “materials” and “location,” and the reader can generally understand the subject. However, the range is limited and several word choices or collocations are inaccurate, which sometimes makes meaning unclear. For example, “finding the reason” does not express the idea of wanting to discover a building’s past, while “more idea” and “source of has income” are difficult to interpret. Repeated use of “house,” “history” and “people” also limits variety. Build a more precise topic vocabulary and check common word partnerships; terms such as “property records,” “previous occupants” and “architectural changes” would help you explain the topic more clearly.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
You attempt both simple and longer sentences, including clauses introduced by “because,” “as well as” and “how,” but complex sentences are often difficult to control. Errors in agreement, verb forms, articles and sentence construction occur frequently: for example, “numerous individual are,” “technology have changed,” and “how build this home” need grammatical correction. Some sentences also run together or contain unclear clause relationships, particularly the long series of questions in the first body paragraph. These problems can make the reader work to understand your meaning. Practise building accurate sentences around one main clause, then add a correctly formed subordinate clause; also check subject–verb agreement and verb forms when proofreading.
