Student answer (Band 6.0)

Nowadays individual has less time for leisure activities as they always in work to fulfil their daily needs. Although work and leisure activities have plays imperative role in everybody's life. I believe both has pros and cons that will discuss in upcoming passage.

On the one hand, there are some advantages of working for long hours. Firstly, work for long hours enhance our skills. For example, working in hospital as a nurse then they spend more time withe their patients and they have to do so many things such as documentation, catheterisation, cannula insertion, sampling and give medication on time. On their first day they do not know how to do this all thing but with time they learn everything very quickly. Moreover, people learn discipline while working daily as they have fixed schedule they have to follow it otherwise they face some challenges like delay in medication that may affect patient health.

On the other hand, there are some disadvantages of working long hours instead of giving time to other fun activities. Firstly, it directly impact on their relationship between their spouse and children. For example, if people works for long hours then do not have much time to spend their family because they have to do house chores and office work due to this they will tired then they prefer rest rather than spending time with family. Furthermore, it has also bad impact on their health as do not have enough time to take of themselves and start eating outside. no exercise that will directly affects their health.

In conclusion, working for long hours because of that they have less time for leisure activities and this has some pros and cons. Working long hours enhance skills and make an individual disciplined but it will also impact their health and bonding between families

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5

You discuss both advantages and disadvantages and give relevant examples, particularly the nursing example to explain how experience can build skills and discipline. However, the question asks you to decide whether the disadvantages outweigh the advantages, and your position remains unclear: the introduction says both have pros and cons, while the conclusion repeats this balance without stating which side is greater. Some points are also under-developed. For instance, the link between long hours and improved nursing skills is explained, but the example is narrow, and the effects on health and family relationships are asserted rather than fully illustrated. State your judgement clearly and support it with a more developed comparison of the two sides.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5

The response has a clear overall arrangement: an introduction, separate paragraphs for advantages and disadvantages, and a conclusion. The signposts “On the one hand,” “On the other hand,” and “In conclusion” make the progression easy to follow, and examples generally appear beside the points they support. This coherent structure is a strength. To make the organisation more effective, ensure that each paragraph develops one central idea before moving to the next; the advantages paragraph, for example, shifts from skill development to discipline without much connection between them. Some linking is also mechanical, with repeated “Firstly” and “Moreover.” Clearer references and transitions between claims would make the flow more natural and precise.

Lexical Resource: Band 6.0

You use an adequate range of vocabulary for the topic, including “leisure activities,” “discipline,” “documentation,” and “impact on their relationship.” The nursing example also shows an attempt to use specific terminology rather than relying only on general words. There are, however, several inaccurate or unnatural choices that reduce precision, such as “have plays imperative role,” “fun activities,” and “bad impact.” Some word forms and collocations are also awkward, including “enhance our skills” in this context and “bonding between families.” Aim for more natural academic phrasing and check that each expression fits its context. More precise vocabulary for weighing benefits against costs would also help express your position clearly.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

You attempt both simple and complex sentences, including clauses beginning with “Although,” “if,” and “because,” and the main ideas are usually understandable. However, errors occur frequently in sentence structure and basic grammar, and some sentences are incomplete or difficult to follow. For example, “Nowadays individual has less time … as they always in work” lacks an article and a complete verb phrase, while “Although work and leisure activities have plays…” is not a complete, correctly formed sentence. Agreement and verb forms are also inconsistent in “if people works” and “this directly impact.” Practise building complete sentences, checking subject–verb agreement, and using articles and verb forms consistently before adding more complex clauses.
