Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5

The essay addresses the prompt by discussing both the advantages and disadvantages of working long hours. The position is clear throughout, and the conclusion provides a summary of the writer's stance. However, the development of ideas is somewhat limited. For instance, the point about 'reputation' is mentioned but not fully explored with a concrete example, and the discussion on health could be more detailed. While the task is addressed, the supporting arguments lack depth and nuance, which prevents the response from reaching a higher band. To improve, ensure that each main idea is supported by a specific, well-explained example or a more detailed logical progression.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5

The essay is organized into clear paragraphs, each with a distinct focus. Cohesive devices are used, such as 'On the one hand', 'On the other hand', and 'Firstly', which help guide the reader through the argument. However, some transitions are mechanical, and there are instances where the flow between sentences is slightly disjointed, such as in the third paragraph where the connection between 'depression' and 'physical activities' could be smoother. Referencing is generally clear, but the overall progression of ideas could be more sophisticated to achieve a higher score.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.5

The vocabulary is adequate for the task, allowing the writer to convey their meaning clearly. There is an attempt to use topic-specific vocabulary like 'commissions', 'incentives', and 'exacerbated'. However, there are several instances of awkward phrasing and word choice errors, such as 'make good reputation' instead of 'build a good reputation' and 'short time happiness' instead of 'short-term happiness'. The range of vocabulary is somewhat limited, and the errors in collocation occasionally draw attention, though they do not impede overall communication.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0

The essay uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the writer attempts complex sentences, there are frequent grammatical errors, particularly with subject-verb agreement ('They left with no extra time', 'These are also affecting on their productivity') and article usage. Punctuation is also inconsistent, with unnecessary capitalization of words like 'Working' and 'The' in the middle of sentences. While the meaning remains clear, the frequency of these errors suggests a lack of control over more complex structures, keeping the score in the 5.5 to 6.0 range.
