Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5
The response fails to address the task effectively. The student has repeatedly copied the prompt text ('Many people work long hours, leaving very little time for leisure activities') as a placeholder throughout the essay instead of providing original arguments or examples. This repetitive, non-responsive approach means the topic is not developed, and the prompt is not answered. There is no clear position or relevant content provided to support the discussion. Consequently, the response does not meet the requirements for task completion.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5
While the essay uses some paragraphing and basic transition words like 'To commence with' and 'In conclusion', the internal structure of the paragraphs is entirely incoherent. The repetition of the prompt text creates a disjointed flow that makes the essay impossible to follow as a logical argument. There is no progression of ideas, and the cohesive devices are used mechanically to connect meaningless phrases rather than coherent thoughts.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
The vocabulary is extremely limited due to the constant repetition of the prompt. Outside of the copied text, the student uses basic introductory phrases such as 'It is widely recognized' and 'In my opinion'. There is no attempt to use a range of vocabulary relevant to the topic of work-life balance, and the lack of original content prevents the demonstration of any lexical flexibility or precision.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
The grammatical structure is severely compromised by the repetitive nature of the text. The few original sentences contain significant errors, such as 'Is widely recognized that the phenomena of...' (missing subject) and 'across to glob' (incorrect preposition and article usage). The reliance on copying the prompt prevents the use of complex sentence structures or accurate grammatical control, leading to frequent errors that impede communication.
