Student answer (Band 6.0)

It is seen that in this modern era, many people are working long hours and spending a few time only to do leisure activities. In this essay, I am going to discuss about advantages and disadvantages of this.

There are some advantages of focusing only on work and spending a little time in doing leisure activities. Firstly, if a person is more goal oriented towards their work then it is beneficial for their work as they can stay more focused related to their work also as they are spending a little time doing leisure activities which cannot distract them from their work, by doing so they can give hundred percentage towards their work.

However, there are some disadvantages of doing work whole time and spending less time in leisure activities. First of all, if a person is spending most of their time on doing work then they can feel stressed and when a person do leisure activities then they can feel stress free and also it helps them to divert their mind from work, which make them to feel fresh and stress free, so they can do their work with more efforts rather than regularly spending time on work. Also, by doing work for long hours can put impact on eyes of person so it would be better if they take break and spend some time on doing leisure activities.

In conclusion, there are a few advantages of spending long hours on work and less hours for leisure activities, however, there are many disadvantages of this.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

The essay addresses the prompt by discussing both advantages and disadvantages. However, the development of ideas is somewhat limited. While you mention that working long hours allows for focus, the explanation is repetitive and lacks concrete examples or depth. Similarly, the disadvantages section touches on stress and health, but these points are not fully extended. To reach a higher band, you should provide specific scenarios or evidence to support your claims rather than repeating the same ideas in different words. Your position is clear, but the overall response feels underdeveloped for a task of this nature.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5

The essay is organized into logical paragraphs, which helps the reader follow your argument. You use basic cohesive devices such as 'Firstly', 'However', and 'In conclusion' to signal transitions. However, the flow within paragraphs is sometimes mechanical, and the repetition of phrases like 'spending a little time in doing leisure activities' makes the text feel less cohesive. To improve, try to use a wider variety of linking words and ensure that your sentences flow more naturally into one another by using referencing (e.g., 'this approach' or 'such habits') instead of repeating full phrases.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

Your vocabulary is adequate for the task but remains quite basic. You rely heavily on simple, repetitive phrasing, such as 'doing work' and 'doing leisure activities'. There is little evidence of less common lexical items or precise collocations. To improve, you should aim to use more sophisticated synonyms and vary your word choices. For example, instead of 'doing work', you could use 'professional responsibilities' or 'career-related tasks'. Expanding your vocabulary will help you express your ideas with more precision and nuance, which is essential for higher band scores.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0

The essay contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors. For instance, 'spending a few time' is incorrect (should be 'little time'), and 'by doing work for long hours can put impact' is syntactically flawed. You also have issues with subject-verb agreement and article usage (e.g., 'on eyes of person'). While these errors do not completely impede communication, they are frequent enough to distract the reader. Focusing on basic sentence construction and proofreading for common errors like prepositions and articles will significantly improve your accuracy.
