Student answer (Band 7.0)
In recent years, most of the people are working for prolonged hours has become increasingly common while giving less time to other activities. Although, this situation has various benefits, it also has certain drawbacks. This essay will discuss both.
One significant advantage is that working for long hours could facilitate people in enormous earning because now these days people are facing challenges such as recission, paying huge taxes to the government, less savings, increased prices of the groceries and other valuable items for daily use. Another benefit of working for prolonged hours could enhance people lifestyle and could save money for the future. Consequently, these days without money people could not adapt better lifestyle otherwise they have to face challenges that could lead them to depression and other health related issues.
Despite these merits, there are some disadvantages. One major drawback is that they are not able to give time to leisure activities which are essential for all the individuals otherwise people are facing serious health concerns such as depression, obesity, fatigue and anxiety. When they are only indulging in work sometimes, they got detached from the activities which could help them to unwind. As a result, they could not spend time with the family members which could affect their relations with the close ones.
In conclusion, although working long hours has certain advantages but its drawbacks outweigh the merits. I firmly believe that government should make stringent rules that people should work for eight hours a day and off on weekends while offer them good income so that they can spend quality time with the family and perform some activities which could be beneficial for them.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.0
The response addresses all parts of the prompt, providing both advantages and disadvantages of working long hours. The position is clear throughout, and the conclusion provides a firm stance. However, the development of ideas is somewhat limited. For instance, the argument regarding 'recission' and 'paying huge taxes' is a bit generic and could be better supported with more specific examples or deeper analysis. The ideas are relevant, but the explanation of how these factors directly lead to the stated outcomes could be more nuanced to reach a higher band. Overall, the task is fulfilled, but the depth of argumentation is moderate.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.0
The essay is logically organized into clear paragraphs, each with a central theme. Cohesive devices such as 'One significant advantage', 'Another benefit', 'Despite these merits', and 'In conclusion' are used to guide the reader through the argument. However, some transitions feel slightly mechanical, and there are minor issues with referencing and flow, such as the sentence 'When they are only indulging in work sometimes, they got detached from the activities'. Despite these minor lapses, the progression of ideas is clear, and the paragraphing is appropriate for the task.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.5
The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task, allowing the student to convey their meaning clearly. There are attempts to use less common vocabulary, such as 'prolonged', 'facilitate', and 'stringent'. However, there are some inaccuracies in word choice and collocation, such as 'enormous earning' (should be 'higher earnings') and 'adapt better lifestyle' (should be 'adopt a better lifestyle'). While these errors do not impede communication, they indicate a need for more precise control over word choice to reach a higher band.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.5
The student uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is generally clear, there are frequent grammatical errors, particularly with subject-verb agreement and article usage (e.g., 'most of the people are working', 'now these days', 'the government'). Some complex structures are attempted, but they often contain errors, such as 'although working long hours has certain advantages but its drawbacks outweigh the merits' (using 'although' and 'but' together is redundant). The errors are noticeable but rarely prevent the reader from understanding the intended message.
