IELTS Writing Task 2 question

Many people work long hours, leaving very little time for leisure activities.

Does this situation have more advantages or more disadvantages?

Give reasons for your answer and include any relevant examples from your own knowledge or experience.

 

Student answer (Band 6.0)

Numerous Individuals work long hours, giving very less time for leisure activities. According to my opinion this situation has more disadvantages and i will discuss my views in the upcoming paragraphs.

To begin with the disadvantages, firstly it can negatively impact on their physical and mental health. To elaborate it, when people work more hours they always felt consumed and with the passage of time they experiences mental stress, health issue, and sometimes they seprate themselves from the society. For example, in Asian countries the 90% of people are suffering from mental health related issues and the main reason behind it is the long working hours.

Furthermore, it also has negative impact on the relationships between family members. To Explain it, when individuals work more hours, they did not gave time to their family members, and with the passage of time their bonds become very weak.

For Example, in north american countries the divorce rate is very high and the main reason behind it giving less time to each other.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

The vocabulary used is generally adequate for the task but lacks the range and precision required for higher bands. There are some inaccuracies in word choice and collocation, such as 'giving very less time' instead of 'leaving very little time' and 'always felt consumed' instead of 'feel exhausted'. The vocabulary is somewhat repetitive, and there is little evidence of less common or idiomatic language. To improve, try to incorporate more precise academic vocabulary and focus on correct collocations to express your ideas more naturally.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

The response contains a mix of simple and some attempted complex sentence structures. However, there are frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede the flow of reading, such as 'they always felt consumed' (tense inconsistency), 'they experiences' (subject-verb agreement), and 'they did not gave' (tense error). Punctuation is also inconsistent in places. While the meaning is generally clear, the high frequency of errors in basic structures prevents a higher score. Focus on mastering subject-verb agreement and consistent tense usage to improve your accuracy.
