Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
The response addresses the prompt by discussing both the advantages and disadvantages of working long hours. The position is clear, and the ideas are relevant, such as financial stability versus mental health. However, the development of these ideas is somewhat superficial. For example, the explanation of how long hours provide a 'healthy lifestyle' in India is a bit anecdotal and could be more analytical. The conclusion attempts to balance the two sides, which is good, but the overall development lacks the depth required for a higher band. The response covers all parts of the task, but the arguments could be more thoroughly extended.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5
The essay is organized into logical paragraphs, each with a clear central topic. Cohesive devices are used, such as 'To begin with', 'Additionally', 'However', and 'In conclusion', which help the flow of the essay. However, some of the linking is slightly mechanical, and there are instances where the progression of ideas feels a bit repetitive. Referencing is generally clear, though some transitions between sentences within paragraphs could be smoother to improve the overall coherence. The paragraphing is appropriate for the task.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
The vocabulary is adequate for the task, allowing the writer to express their ideas clearly. There are some attempts at less common vocabulary, such as 'proliferation' and 'financial stability', but there are also noticeable errors in word choice and collocation, such as 'keep small time' instead of 'little time', 'hands on practise' instead of 'hands-on practice', and 'gives comfort' instead of 'provide comfort'. While these errors do not impede communication, they limit the range and precision of the language used.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
The essay uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. There are several grammatical errors throughout, such as 'reasons of behind my argument will be discuss', 'an individual get', 'many individuals work long hours' (missing 'who'), and 'a person become'. These errors are frequent but do not prevent the reader from understanding the message. The control of punctuation is generally acceptable, but there are some minor issues with sentence construction that affect the overall accuracy of the writing.
