Student answer (Band 6.0)

Prioritising the working hours are significantly increasing higher than expected. Lately, people are stretching their working hours more which leads them to have less personal time for other fun related activities. In my opinion , this trend has comparatively more disadvantages than its positive side.

To begin with, if we talk about the positive side, in this economy, the necessity of working more and longer hours is the need of the day. It is becoming popular for many reasons such as people wanted to be become financially stable. Additionally, in terms of living a good lifestyle, they need sufficient money to spend on their needs. Moreover, people who seeking promotions , they tend to work more to show their capabilities to their managers.

The downside of this trend is they do no get the spare time to enjoy thier personal life. This notion not only affecting their health but also adding mental pressure in general. As a result, they started having lack of enjoyment in their life. This monotonous life only offers them no extra time to pursue their hobbies. Along with this , people with families, tend to forgot how to enjoy family time with their partnes and with their kids, which leads them less love and affaction towards their family members.

To conclude, Although , the working race has significant level of achievements to reach in terms of promotion or financial stability but the effect of doing that will put detrimental effect as well. I strongly believe that deducting more time from work and puttig it into improving personal life in terms of enjoying personal hobbies and taking care of their oneselves is crucial.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5

The response addresses all parts of the task and maintains a clear position throughout. The arguments regarding the advantages (financial stability and career progression) and disadvantages (health, mental pressure, and family life) are relevant. However, the development of these ideas is somewhat limited; for instance, the point about 'financial stability' could be supported with more specific examples or deeper analysis. The conclusion clearly restates the position, though the language used is slightly repetitive. Overall, the essay provides a balanced view and meets the requirements of the prompt effectively.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5

The essay is logically organized into clear paragraphs, each with a distinct focus. Cohesive devices such as 'To begin with', 'Additionally', 'Moreover', and 'As a result' are used to guide the reader through the arguments. However, some transitions feel slightly mechanical, and there are instances where the flow between sentences is a bit disjointed. Referencing is generally clear, though some minor errors in pronoun usage occur. The paragraphing is appropriate, and the progression of ideas is easy to follow throughout the response.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

The vocabulary is adequate for the task, allowing the writer to express ideas clearly. There are attempts to use less common vocabulary, such as 'detrimental effect' and 'monotonous', which add some variety. However, there are several instances of awkward word choice and collocation errors, such as 'working race' instead of 'rat race' or 'taking care of their oneselves'. Spelling errors like 'thier', 'partnes', and 'affaction' are present, though they do not impede communication. A wider range of precise vocabulary would be needed to reach a higher band.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

The essay uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is generally clear, there are frequent grammatical errors, particularly with subject-verb agreement ('Prioritising the working hours are', 'people who seeking promotions') and verb forms ('they started having lack of enjoyment', 'tend to forgot'). Punctuation is also inconsistent, with unnecessary spaces before commas and periods. While the errors do not prevent understanding, they occur frequently enough to limit the score. More attention to basic grammatical rules and proofreading would significantly improve the accuracy of the writing.
