Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5
The response addresses all parts of the task, providing both advantages and disadvantages before clearly stating a position in the conclusion. The ideas are relevant, such as career progression and financial rewards versus health and work-life balance. However, the development of these ideas is somewhat basic. For instance, the example of the friend at Ikea is a good attempt at support, but the explanation of the disadvantages could be more nuanced. The position is clear throughout, though the essay would benefit from more sophisticated analysis to reach a higher band.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5
The essay is logically organized into clear paragraphs, with an introduction, two body paragraphs, and a conclusion. Cohesive devices are used, such as 'Firstly', 'Secondly', and 'In conclusion', which help guide the reader. However, some transitions are mechanical or slightly awkward, such as 'Addition to that' (should be 'In addition to that'). Referencing is occasionally unclear, for example, 'the person that works' is a bit clunky. Overall, the progression of ideas is coherent, but the management of cohesive devices could be more flexible and natural.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
The vocabulary is adequate for the task, allowing the writer to express their ideas clearly. There are attempts to use topic-specific vocabulary like 'operation analyst', 'privilege', and 'modern scenario'. However, there are several errors in word choice and collocation, such as 'disbalances' (imbalance), 'earning a good amount' (earning a significant salary), and 'a upper hand' (an upper hand). These errors do not impede communication, but they demonstrate a limited range of sophisticated vocabulary, keeping the score in the mid-range.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
The essay uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the writer attempts complex sentences, there are frequent grammatical errors, particularly with articles ('a sleep of 8 hours'), subject-verb agreement ('individuals does not get time'), and pluralization ('a lot of person'). Punctuation is also inconsistent, with unnecessary commas appearing in several places. While these errors rarely impede the overall meaning, they are frequent enough to prevent the essay from reaching a higher band. More attention to basic grammatical accuracy is needed.
