Student answer (Band 6.5)

It has become increasingly common that people are being workaholic, they get very less time for their favourite activities as they spend most of their time at their work places. Although this trend has both positive and negative aspects on one's life, I believe its drawbacks outweigh the benefits.

One main advantage why employees prefer to spend their a large amount of time at their working areas because they want to earn more money. When people spend overtime at their workplace, they are paid overtime, which increase their overall income. Due to this, they can not only fulfill their basic needs but also can lead a luxurious lives.

Another benefits of spending more time at work can enhance the productivity of the company. People who work for longer hours, they might improve the production of the products and fulfill the demands of the consumers on time. In this way, they can develop their business as well as contribute to the economy of the country.

However, working for a long time is not without demerits. If people spend a lot of time at their working areas, they left very little or even no time behind for their personal activities. They feel so stress and tired all the time. As a result, they have to face some serious health issues latter in their lives.

In addition, individuals who spend less time at home with their loved ones often experience weaken relationship with their family members. Most of the time they have to face family conflicts, which eventually can spoil their personal life.

In conclusion, even though working for earning money and increasing productivity is understandable, in my opinion, maintaining a balance between personal and professional life is extremely essential in order to leading a healthy and happy family life.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.0

The response addresses all parts of the task and maintains a clear position throughout. You have identified both advantages and disadvantages, and your stance that the drawbacks outweigh the benefits is consistent. The ideas are relevant and generally well-developed, though some points, such as the impact on company productivity, could have been supported with more specific examples or deeper analysis to reach a higher band. Overall, the response is well-structured and directly answers the prompt, demonstrating a good understanding of the requirements.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5

The essay is logically organized with a clear introduction, body paragraphs, and a conclusion. Each paragraph has a central theme, which helps the reader follow your argument. You use cohesive devices such as 'Although', 'In addition', and 'As a result' to link ideas. However, some transitions feel slightly mechanical, and there is occasional repetition of phrasing. Paragraphing is used effectively to separate the advantages from the disadvantages, which contributes to the overall clarity of the text.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, allowing you to express your ideas clearly. You use some topic-specific vocabulary like 'productivity', 'luxurious lives', and 'professional life'. However, there are some inaccuracies in word choice and collocation, such as 'being workaholic' (should be 'workaholics') and 'weaken relationship' (should be 'weakened relationships'). To improve, focus on using more precise collocations and ensuring word forms are used correctly in context.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0

The essay uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While you attempt complex sentences, there are frequent grammatical errors, particularly with subject-verb agreement and article usage (e.g., 'they feel so stress' instead of 'stressed', 'latter in their lives' instead of 'later'). Some sentences are slightly awkward, such as 'One main advantage why employees prefer... is because'. Despite these errors, the meaning remains clear throughout, and the mistakes do not significantly impede communication.
