Student answer (Band 6.0)

Several individuals are so much into their daily work life, that they do not get much of a free time to do any other activities. This situation has more demerits as brain fog and lack of concentration is very common outcome, while advantages like capital stability also exists.

Mental breakdown from the stress and workload are the negative symptoms of spending more time at your work place. In addition, people get drained out and; that affects the behaviour and mood swings. for instance, Swami Vivekananda, the great philosopher and a book writer, explained in one of his books, that divorces and breakups are very normal these days and the reason behind that is lack emotional stability which links to the long working hours at the job. i believe, one who can sit in the silence and do nothing gains a lot than waste energy of doing labour work.

However, commuters are often considered as successful people in several communities. They have the special powers of shutting their emotional intelligence and only focus on the projects at the work place. For example, Mr. Krishnamurthy, the most wealthy person in India, said that money follows to those who works more and do not time pass in any manner. So, that is clear that wealth is created, if you sacrifice rest of the things of your life.

To conclude, workers often forget to provide enough time for brain rest or any other activities to enjoy. Consequences are positive and negative both, loosing relationships and gaining capital. One should make decision accordingly on work-life balance.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

The response addresses the prompt by discussing both the advantages and disadvantages of long working hours. However, the development of ideas is somewhat superficial. The arguments regarding 'brain fog' and 'capital stability' are introduced but not fully explored with depth. The inclusion of specific examples, such as Swami Vivekananda and Mr. Krishnamurthy, is somewhat tangential and does not clearly support the core argument about work-life balance in a modern context. The position is clear, but the overall development lacks the analytical rigor expected at higher bands. To improve, focus on expanding the reasoning behind your points rather than relying on anecdotal references.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The essay is organized into logical paragraphs, each with a clear focus. Cohesive devices are used, such as 'In addition', 'However', and 'To conclude', which help guide the reader through the argument. However, some transitions feel mechanical, and the flow between sentences is occasionally interrupted by awkward phrasing, such as 'and; that affects'. The referencing is sometimes unclear, particularly in the second paragraph where the link between the philosopher mentioned and the argument about long working hours is tenuous. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate the different sides of the argument.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task, allowing the writer to express basic ideas. There are attempts to use less common vocabulary, such as 'demerits', 'capital stability', and 'emotional intelligence'. However, there are several instances of imprecise word choice and awkward collocations, such as 'do not time pass' and 'loosing relationships' (spelling error). The range is sufficient to convey meaning, but the lack of precision and occasional errors in word formation prevent it from reaching a higher band. Focusing on natural collocations and refining word choices will enhance the quality of the writing.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

The essay uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is generally clear, there are frequent grammatical errors, including issues with subject-verb agreement ('money follows to those who works'), punctuation errors (the semicolon usage), and missing articles. Some sentences are structurally awkward, such as 'one who can sit in the silence and do nothing gains a lot than waste energy'. These errors are noticeable and occur throughout the text, though they do not completely impede communication. Increasing the accuracy of complex structures and proofreading for basic grammatical slips would significantly improve the score.
