Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0

The response addresses the prompt by discussing the disadvantages of long working hours, but it fails to meet the minimum word count requirement of 250 words, which negatively impacts the score. While the position is clear, the development of ideas is somewhat limited. The examples provided, such as the WHO survey and the newspaper headline, are relevant but lack sufficient detail to fully support the arguments. The response focuses exclusively on disadvantages, ignoring the instruction to consider whether there are more advantages or disadvantages, which limits the depth of the discussion. To improve, ensure you meet the word count and provide a more balanced or thoroughly justified perspective.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5

The essay is organised into paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the structure. However, the use of cohesive devices is often mechanical or inaccurate, such as 'To commence with the formost demerit' and 'To conclude this'. Some transitions feel forced, and the logical flow between sentences is occasionally interrupted by grammatical errors. Referencing is sometimes unclear, and the progression of ideas within paragraphs could be more fluid. Improving the variety and naturalness of linking words will help elevate the coherence of your writing.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.0

The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task but lacks the precision and range required for a higher band. There are several instances of word-choice errors, such as 'welcoming more desires' (likely meaning 'health issues') and 'health deasies' (spelling error for 'diseases'). Phrases like 'refer their mind' are non-standard. While you attempt to use some topic-specific vocabulary, the frequent errors and limited range restrict the score. Focusing on learning collocations and ensuring accurate spelling will significantly improve your lexical resource.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0

The essay contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede clarity. Examples include 'as that of who are working' and 'people are loss their confidence'. Punctuation is also inconsistent, with some sentences ending abruptly or lacking necessary commas. Subject-verb agreement and verb tense usage are inconsistent throughout the text. To improve, focus on mastering basic sentence construction and proofreading for common errors like tense consistency and pluralisation.
