Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
The response addresses the prompt by discussing both advantages and disadvantages, and a clear position is maintained throughout. However, the development of ideas is somewhat limited. For instance, the argument that working long hours prevents 'overthinking' is a bit simplistic and lacks depth. While the prompt is addressed, the supporting examples, such as the vague reference to a 2017 study in the USA, lack specific detail and do not fully substantiate the claims. To reach a higher band, you should provide more nuanced explanations and concrete, real-world examples that demonstrate a deeper understanding of the social and economic implications of long working hours.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The essay is organized into logical paragraphs, each with a clear focus. Cohesive devices are used, such as 'To commence with', 'Moreover', and 'However', which help guide the reader through the argument. However, some of these transitions feel a bit mechanical or repetitive. Additionally, there are instances where the flow between sentences is slightly disjointed, such as the transition between the mention of the USA study and the conclusion of that paragraph. Improving the variety of linking words and ensuring that ideas flow more naturally from one to the next would enhance the overall coherence of your writing.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
The vocabulary used is generally adequate for the task, allowing the message to be conveyed clearly. You use some topic-specific terms like 'leisure activities', 'anxiety', and 'mutual decision'. However, the range is somewhat limited, and there are instances of awkward phrasing or word choice, such as 'expliciate' (which is not standard English) and 'working more time' instead of 'working longer hours'. To improve, focus on using more precise collocations and a wider range of academic vocabulary to express your ideas with greater sophistication and accuracy.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
The essay contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is generally clear, there are frequent grammatical errors throughout the text. Examples include subject-verb agreement issues ('This condition have', 'it may leads to'), incorrect article usage, and punctuation errors (missing spaces after commas). These errors are noticeable and occur regularly, though they do not completely impede communication. To achieve a higher score, you need to focus on proofreading for basic grammatical accuracy, particularly with verb tenses, plurals, and sentence structure, and aim for more error-free complex sentences.
