Student answer (Band 5.0)

Social life plays crucial role in everyday routine. Some people have many different opinions redarging this issue; consequently there are many drawbacks of doing work every time. From my perspective, everyone ought to spend quality time in different activities. This essay will discuss the importance of leisure time.

The nature of any person is different from another person. Many people don't have social life. They enjoy there own company, consequently they prefer to doing work for spending their time, even on weekends they choose the activities related to their work. For instance, they don't have friends because no one like their thinking of being alone. Moreover, due to this fact they used to be anoying every time. As a results, at the time of trouble they don't have anyone for help.

Another vital factor is that, working for long hours can also affect whole family. If an individual work all day and don't spend the quality time with their family, their family also keep away from him. Futhermore, it also affect the health. Leisure activies can relax and fresh the mind; likewise going to visit restuarants on weekends, do shopping, spend quality time with children and parents. Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0

The response addresses the prompt by discussing the disadvantages of working long hours and the importance of leisure time, maintaining a clear position throughout. However, the ideas are relatively undeveloped and lack specific, well-rounded supporting examples. For instance, the mention of people having no friends because 'no one like their thinking' is simplistic and unsupported. Furthermore, the response suffers significantly from length penalties, as it contains only 210 words, falling well short of the mandatory 250-word minimum. This severely impacts task completion and prevents the development required for higher bands. Overall, it demonstrates features characteristic of a Band 5 performance due to under-development and length failure.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0

The essay is organised into an introduction, two body paragraphs, and a truncated conclusion. Logical progression is attempted using cohesive devices such as 'consequently', 'moreover', and 'furthermore'. However, referencing and cohesion are often faulty or mechanical. For example, 'They enjoy there own company, consequently they prefer to doing work' contains grammatical linkage errors, and the pronoun referencing in the second body paragraph ('If an individual work all day and don't spend the quality time with their family, their family also keep away from him') is inconsistent with number agreement. Paragraphing is present, but the final paragraph abruptly cuts off with the single letter 'I'. These mechanical faults and lack of sophisticated cohesion place this in the Band 5 category.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.0

The student demonstrates a limited and basic lexical range. Words and phrases like 'crucial role', 'everyday routine', and 'leisure activities' are appropriate, but there are numerous lexical and spelling errors that impede communication and demonstrate weak control of collocations. Examples include 'redarging' instead of 'regarding', 'there own' instead of 'their own', 'anoying' instead of 'annoying', and 'fresh the mind' instead of 'refresh the mind'. Attempts to use less common vocabulary are unsuccessful due to incorrect word forms and spelling mistakes ('restuarants'). Because the vocabulary is repetitive and contains noticeable errors that cause difficulty for the reader, a Band 5 is appropriate.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0

The writing displays a very limited range of grammatical structures, relying mostly on simple and awkwardly constructed complex sentences. There are frequent grammatical errors throughout the text, particularly with subject-verb agreement, verb forms, and pluralisation. Examples include 'Some people have many different opinions redarging this issue', 'prefer to doing work', 'no one like their thinking', 'an individual work all day and don't spend', and 'do shopping'. Punctuation and sentence boundaries are also handled poorly, culminating in an incomplete final sentence fragment. Because errors are frequent and occasionally cause difficulty for the reader, the grammar aligns with Band 5 descriptors.
