Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 4.0
The response only partially addresses the prompt because it falls severely short of the word count requirement, containing only 128 words compared to the minimum of 250 words. Although the writer attempts to introduce the topic and touch upon the pros and cons of working long hours, the ideas remain extremely underdeveloped. The text mentions rising living expenses and cites a vague 2026 study regarding younger workers, but it fails to fully explore whether the situation has more advantages or disadvantages, which is the core demand of the task. Due to the severe under-length and lack of full development, the score is heavily penalised for Task Achievement.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 4.5
The text demonstrates some basic organisation, attempting an introduction and an opening paragraph for the advantages. However, paragraphing is faulty, with the second paragraph running on and lacking a clear conclusion. Cohesive devices are minimal and mechanical, such as the repetitive use of 'day by day' and basic transition phrases like 'To commence with'. Referencing is also problematic, as seen in the pronoun shift from 'our time' to 'your time' within the same sentence. There is no clear overall progression of ideas across the text, placing it firmly in the lower bands for cohesion.
Lexical Resource — Band 4.0
The vocabulary used is basic and repetitive, with numerous spelling and word-choice errors that strain the reader's understanding. Examples include 'expences' instead of expenses, 'hight' instead of high, 'beacuse' instead of because, 'groseries' instead of groceries, 'increcing' instead of increasing, 'did' instead of do, and 'yougones' instead of younger ones. These errors indicate a limited lexical range that is inadequate for sustained discourse, restricting the score to a band 4.0 level.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 4.0
The grammatical range is very limited, consisting mostly of simple and attempted complex sentences that are heavily flawed. There are frequent errors in verb forms, such as 'people who wants' instead of want, 'instead of spent your time' instead of spending your time, and 'want to did more hours' instead of work longer hours. Punctuation and capitalisation errors are also prevalent throughout the text, including missing capital letters at the beginning of sentences and missing spaces after punctuation marks. These frequent errors impede communication and reflect poor grammatical control.
