Student answer (Band 6.0)
A considarable amount of people works prolong hours and spend nominal time on their hobbies. I strongly believe that this situation has several disadvanatges as it does not provide work-life balance and could lead them to discomfort life.
To begin with, the main disadvantge of the situation is that people would not able spend quality time with family. To elaborate it, although work long hours could provide a good amount of salary, it fosters them to isolated and boring lifestyle. For example, those employees who do ovetime at workplace often could not attend any social gathering. This is because they feel tired after long working hours. This measure leads them into streesed and isolated lifestyle. Futhermore, this situation also affects their mental ability and overall well-being. As a result, they cannot focus on work for long time and it significantly reduces their productivity.
Additionally, these individuals struggle to find some time for leisure activity. This is because prolong working hours does not provide flexibility. As these workers often have to work in the evening and at night. Many people go to the gym after normal working hours to improve their fitness level, but without flexibility they cannot attend leisure activities. As a result, they not only feel isolated from the day-to-day activity, but aslo pose a boring life. Hence, it shows how important it is to have work-life balance at the workplace.
In conclusion, I think that a long work hours have many disadvantages such as not flexibility to spend time on leisure activities, and it could also affect overall well-being. Consequently, people should find the job which allows work-life balance.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0
Your position is clear from the introduction: you believe long working hours have more disadvantages, and the conclusion restates this view. You address the effects on family and social life, leisure, and well-being, with relevant examples such as missing social gatherings or being unable to go to the gym. These points answer the question, but some are asserted rather than fully explained. For instance, the link between reduced leisure time and a “boring life” could be developed with a clearer consequence, and the claim that long hours reduce productivity needs more explanation or support. To strengthen the response, extend each main idea with a specific example and explain how it demonstrates that the disadvantages outweigh any benefits, such as higher salary.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5
The response has a clear overall structure: an introduction, two body paragraphs, and a conclusion. The paragraphs each focus on related disadvantages, and signposts such as “To begin with,” “Additionally,” and “In conclusion” make the progression easy to follow. This is a solid organisational foundation. However, some linking is mechanical or repetitive, particularly the repeated use of “As a result” and “This is because.” The sentence beginning “As these workers often have to work in the evening and at night” is a fragment, which interrupts the flow, and the reference in “This measure” is unclear. For stronger cohesion, connect ideas more naturally and ensure each pronoun or reference clearly points to the idea it represents.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
You attempt a range of topic-related vocabulary, including “work-life balance,” “social gathering,” “flexibility,” and “overall well-being.” These choices help communicate the main ideas, but inaccurate spelling and word choice are noticeable and sometimes make the reader pause. Examples include “considearable,” “disadvanatges,” “prolong hours,” “nominal time,” and “pose a boring life.” Some expressions are also unnatural, such as “isolated and boring lifestyle” and “day-to-day activity” where you mean social activities. Build accuracy by learning common collocations for work and leisure, and check spelling carefully. Aim to use familiar words precisely rather than choosing a more formal-sounding expression that does not fit the meaning.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
You use both simple and complex sentence forms, including clauses introduced by “although,” “because,” and “as a result,” so there is some variety. Most of the message remains understandable, but errors in agreement, verb patterns, articles, and sentence construction recur. For example, “people works” should be “people work,” and “would not able spend” needs “would not be able to spend.” The sentence “As these workers often have to work in the evening and at night” is incomplete because it has no main clause. There are also punctuation and spacing problems, such as the missing space after the comma in “activity, but.” Practise checking subject–verb agreement and completing every sentence, while retaining your attempts at complex structures.
