Student answer (Band 6.0)

In recent years, professionals are working longer hours to maintain their financial condition, and allocating less time for leisure activities. This trend has more advantages compared to disadvantages, which are explain in the following paragraphs.

The primary benefit of working more hours is it allows workers to save more money by working over-time. This is because many individuals are suffering from a financial condition when they are jobless, during that period of time saving could be only option to complete the basic requirements. If people earning more by working more hours, they may save enough amount of money, which they can spend during their tough situation. For instance, in Canada, during penademic majority of people did not have enough saving to survive, because they only work minimum hours a week. Hence, they were suffering from worst financial situation and fully rely on the government income.

Moreover, more number of working hours leads to live lavish life. This is mainly because working limited hours a week only buy basic things, but for the expensive products we required to earn more.

In contrast, there are certain drawbacks of investing no time on doing leisure things. The main demerit is it imbalances the relation among the family. These days, people are become more workaholic and give less priority to their family member and doing leisure activities. If they work more, they may not spend quality of time with their partner. As a consequence, this situation leads to a significant increase in the divorce rate. For example, in India, celebrities have more divorce rate compared to the middle class family, because they fail to maintain their relation with their partner due to lack of time.

To conclude, although saving money is the key element to work longer hours, the primary drawback is spending inadequate amount of time among the married couple leads to more divorce rate.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0

Your position is clear: you believe longer working hours have more advantages, and you discuss both financial benefits and reduced family time. The savings argument is relevant, and the example about people facing financial hardship during the pandemic helps illustrate it. However, the second advantage—that longer hours enable a “lavish life”—is only briefly explained, so it is less convincing than the first. The drawbacks paragraph develops the effect on relationships and divorce, but the claim about celebrities in India is broad and would benefit from a more specific or carefully qualified example. To strengthen the response, explain the advantages and disadvantages with more balanced detail and make the conclusion explicitly compare their overall importance.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0

The response has a clear overall structure: an introduction, two paragraphs on advantages, a paragraph on disadvantages, and a conclusion. Paragraphs generally focus on one main point, and linking expressions such as “Moreover,” “In contrast,” and “As a consequence” help show the direction of the argument. Some connections are less clear or mechanical, however. For example, the pandemic example follows the savings point but the link between limited working hours and insufficient savings is asserted rather than fully explained. The conclusion also repeats the divorce point without clearly resolving the comparison in the question. Improve progression by making each example directly support its paragraph’s main claim and using clearer references between ideas.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You use a relevant range of vocabulary, including “financial condition,” “quality of time,” “workaholic,” and “significant increase,” which allows you to discuss money and family effects. There are also attempts at more specific expressions, but several choices or forms are inaccurate or unnatural, such as “penademic,” “government income,” “more number of working hours,” and “divorce rate” when referring to celebrities generally. These errors do not prevent the reader from understanding your main points, but they reduce precision and naturalness. Work on common collocations and accurate word forms, and check spelling carefully. More precise terms for savings, household income, and work-life balance would help express your ideas more effectively.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

You attempt both simple and complex sentences, including conditional structures such as “If people earning more by working more hours, they may save enough amount of money” and a relative clause beginning “which they can spend.” This shows some range, and the overall meaning is usually clear. However, some errors in verb forms, agreement, articles, and sentence construction remain. For example, “professionals are working longer hours” is awkwardly formed for a general trend, “which are explain” has incorrect verb agreement and form, and “people are become more workaholic” has an incorrect verb pattern. Review subject–verb agreement and the forms used after “if,” and edit sentences for complete, accurate clauses. Greater control would make your complex ideas easier to follow.
