Student answer (Band 6.0)
Dear Mr. Patel,
I hope this letter finds you well. I am writing to express my interest in applying for the position of a language teacher, which was recently advertised.
I got to know that you are looking for a teacher who can teach gujarati language to your kids and also who resides in Australia. I have been living in this country for past four years.I did my graduation from India and my major subject was gujarati, which is the main reason why I want to work at this position .
I am living nearby your house. I have an excellent knowledge of gujarati grammer, I was state topper in my time. Currently, I am studing in university and as a consequnce of break in my course, I am lookin for a job.
I can also cook for your family. I can take care of your pets as well. I want to financially support my study and it is a great opportunity for me.Thus, this job will be helpful for collecting funds for my fees.
Please, consider my application. I hope you provide me a prompt response.
Yours faithfully,
Shivani Panchal

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0
You address all three requested points: you explain your suitability through your Gujarati major, four years in Australia and proximity to the family; offer cooking and pet care; and say that you want to support your studies financially. These details make the application relevant and understandable. However, some points are asserted rather than developed. For example, being a state topper could be linked to how you would teach the children, and your offer to help the family could include a little more detail about your availability or experience. The reason for wanting the job is clear but mainly financial, so adding a personal interest in teaching or sharing your language would make the purpose more fully developed.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0
The letter has a recognisable progression from applying, to explaining your qualifications, to offering extra help and giving your motivation. Paragraph breaks help separate these stages, and phrases such as “I am writing to express my interest” and “I can also” guide the reader. Some connections are less smooth: the sentence about living nearby is followed by your grammar knowledge and academic achievement without a clear link, while “Thus” repeats the financial reason just stated. There is also a shift from formal application language to less polished phrasing. Group related details more deliberately and use a wider range of natural transitions so the organisation feels less mechanical.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
You use enough relevant vocabulary to communicate the application, including “position,” “major subject,” “financially support” and “take care of your pets.” The meaning is generally clear, but spelling and word choice errors reduce precision: “grammer,” “studing,” “consequnce” and “lookin” should be corrected, and “collecting funds for my fees” is an awkward collocation. “Gujarati language” is also less natural than “Gujarati.” Aim for accurate spelling and more idiomatic phrases, especially in a formal letter. A few stronger, precise expressions would help you describe your teaching suitability and motivation without relying on repeated references to the job and financial support.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
You use a mix of simple and more developed sentence forms, such as the relative clause in “the position of a language teacher, which was recently advertised” and the reason clause beginning “which is the main reason.” Most ideas remain understandable, but some grammatical and punctuation errors are present. For example, “I have been living in this country for past four years” needs an article and a more complete time expression; “I am lookin for a job” has an incorrect verb form; and “I am living nearby your house” uses an unsuitable preposition pattern. Several sentences also run together because spaces after full stops are missing. Check articles, verb forms and sentence boundaries during revision.
