Student answer (Band 7.0)

Dear Mr/Mrs Pignatelli,

I hope you people are doing well. I saw a posted advertisement on your Facebook page regarding to your quest for an expert english teacher for your two children.

My name is Twinkal Bodala, I have completed my bachelor of science in chemistry with major in english from Australian University. I think I can be suitable person for you. My grades in english language are good; I have excellent proficiency in teaching as I can teach in a way that student feel more comfortable in learning environment. Many times I use everyday living examples to keep learning as way of story telling. In the end, sometimes I take surprise test so they can try to litsen carefully each and every lecture also, provide kids suitable rewards.

As I am living just two block away from your home, if you want I can do babysitting sometimes when you are busy in your hectic lifestyles. As per my knowledge you people owned family wine making business and you are quite busy in that. I can provide little help.

I really need this job as my husband lost his job in a last year recession in Australia. I have one kid to look after so if you give me an opportunity I would appreciate it.

Yours sincerely,

Twinkal.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.0

The response addresses all three bullet points of the prompt: suitability, additional help, and reasons for wanting the job. The tone is appropriate for a formal letter, and the ideas are relevant. However, the development of these ideas is somewhat basic. For instance, the explanation of teaching methods is a bit repetitive, and the mention of the family's wine business feels slightly intrusive rather than helpful. To reach a higher band, the candidate should expand on their teaching philosophy or specific qualifications with more professional detail rather than focusing on personal financial circumstances.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.0

The letter is logically organized with a clear opening and closing. Paragraphing is used to separate the different requirements of the task, which helps the reader follow the flow of information. However, the use of cohesive devices is somewhat mechanical and limited (e.g., 'In the end', 'As per my knowledge'). There is a lack of sophisticated linking words to connect ideas more fluidly. The referencing is generally clear, but the transition between the teaching experience and the offer of babysitting could be smoother.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.5

The vocabulary is adequate for the task but lacks range and precision. The candidate uses common phrases like 'I hope you people are doing well' and 'I really need this job', which are slightly informal or repetitive. There are some inaccuracies in word choice, such as 'regarding to' (should be 'regarding') and 'litsen' (spelling error). While the candidate attempts to use topic-specific vocabulary related to teaching and employment, the overall lexical control is limited, preventing the use of more sophisticated or idiomatic expressions.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.5

The response contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is generally clear, there are frequent grammatical errors, such as 'I have completed my bachelor of science' (missing articles), 'student feel' (subject-verb agreement), and 'in a last year recession' (incorrect article usage). Punctuation is generally functional, but there are minor errors in sentence construction. The candidate demonstrates an ability to form complex sentences, but the frequency of errors in basic grammar prevents a higher score.
