Student answer (Band 7.0)
Dear Parents,
I am writing this letter to express my interest in your recent advertisement you posted on marketplace regarding the language tuition for your children.
I believe I would be a best teacher for your children as I have mastered in French with Grade A++ from one of the renowned university of Sydney named International Language University. Apart from this, I have given classes to many students who passed with their desired scores. Reference score charts can be provided upon request.
Additionally, I am currently living in the same town as yours, even we lives on the same street which eliminates the extended travel times and classes can be scheduled on your site where children would feel more comfortable and they can focus better on studies.
Due to the ongoing rise of the recession in the job market, I have been laid off from current employment due to the temporary closure of premises. Thus, i am in dire need of employment to afford daily living expenses.
I hope you would consider my application, and I am looking forward to your response.
Yours faithfully,
Navjot kaur.

| Criterion | Band |
|---|---|

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.5
You have addressed all three bullet points in the prompt: explaining your suitability, offering additional help, and stating your reasons for applying. The tone is generally appropriate for a formal letter. However, the explanation regarding your reasons for wanting the job focuses heavily on your personal financial situation due to a recession. While relevant, it would be more effective to balance this with a professional interest in the children's development or the satisfaction of teaching. The letter is well-structured and covers the requirements clearly, providing sufficient detail to satisfy the task instructions.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.5
The letter is logically organized with clear paragraphing. Each paragraph focuses on a specific aspect of the task, which helps the reader follow your points easily. You use some cohesive devices such as 'Apart from this', 'Additionally', and 'Thus' to link your ideas. However, some transitions feel slightly mechanical, and the flow could be improved by using a wider variety of linking words. The referencing is generally clear, though the transition between the mention of your qualifications and your current living situation could be smoother to create a more cohesive narrative.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.5
You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'renowned', 'eliminated', and 'employment'. There are some minor inaccuracies, such as 'mastered in French' (should be 'majored in French' or 'have a master's degree in French') and 'on your site' (which sounds slightly industrial; 'at your home' is more natural). While the vocabulary is sufficient to convey your meaning clearly, it lacks the precision and flexibility required for higher bands. Expanding your use of collocations related to professional settings would enhance your score.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.5
You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. There are several grammatical errors, such as 'even we lives on the same street' (subject-verb agreement error) and 'advertisement you posted' (missing 'that' or 'which'). Additionally, there is a capitalization error with 'i' in the fourth paragraph. While these errors are noticeable, they do not impede communication. To improve, focus on subject-verb agreement and consistent capitalization. The use of complex sentences is present, but the accuracy within those structures needs to be more consistent to reach a higher band.
