Student answer (Band 7.0)
Dear sir/madam,
I am writing this letter to apply for position of teaching your two children my native language for a year.
According to me, I am suitable for this job as i have some teaching experience in my back home, along with that i am very fluent and confident in my native language which is Punjabi. Moreover, children love to play and talk with me because of my friendly nature and good communication skills.
Apart from teaching, i could also teach student some outdoor activities such as badminton, cricket and football which would help in physical growth of children. I can also pick and drop children from school if you feel appropriate.
Main reason for getting this job is that i want to gain more experience in teaching and also want to learn Australian culture as i am new to this country. Moreover, i love to meet new people and make friends.
I would love to hear your response.
Thanks

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.5
The letter covers all three bullet points required by the prompt. You clearly explain your suitability through teaching experience and language fluency, offer additional help with sports and childcare, and provide personal reasons for wanting the job. The tone is generally appropriate for a letter of application, although the salutation 'Dear sir/madam' is slightly generic given the prompt mentions a 'couple'. The ideas are relevant and well-developed, ensuring the reader understands your motivation and capabilities. To reach a higher band, ensure that the opening salutation is more specific to the context provided in the task instructions.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.5
The letter is logically organized with a clear progression of ideas. Each paragraph focuses on a specific aspect of the prompt, which helps the reader follow your argument easily. You use some cohesive devices such as 'Moreover', 'Apart from', and 'In addition', which help link your sentences. However, the transition between some ideas could be smoother, and the use of cohesive devices is occasionally a bit mechanical. Paragraphing is used effectively to separate the different requirements of the task, which contributes to the overall clarity of the message.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.5
You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, such as 'native language', 'communication skills', and 'physical growth'. While the vocabulary is sufficient to convey your meaning clearly, it is somewhat basic and lacks the more sophisticated collocations or idiomatic expressions that would characterize a higher band. There are no significant spelling errors, and the word choice is generally accurate. To improve, try to incorporate more precise adjectives and verbs to describe your experience and enthusiasm, rather than relying on common phrases like 'good communication skills'.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.5
You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While your meaning is always clear, there are several grammatical slips, such as 'teaching experience in my back home' (should be 'back home' or 'in my home country') and 'teach student' (should be 'teach the children'). Additionally, the pronoun 'i' should always be capitalized. There are some minor errors in article usage and preposition placement. Despite these, the errors do not impede communication, and you show a reasonable level of control over basic sentence construction.
