Student answer (Band 6.5)
Dear Sir or Madam,
I am writing this letter because I saw an advertisement last week where you are looking for tutor for your children. Firstly, I would like to tell that I am working from last 10 years as childcare assistant in daycare. I also provide a private session of Punjabi language to children. So, I had a prior experience in similar sector with younger ones. I can also help your children to teach them real life practical skills as cooking, sports, managing money. If you have your's schedule busy, I can prepare healthy meals for them. Along with that, I can also teach them to eat healthy and balanced diet.
Now, I want to join that job where I can have the private tution classes so I can also give some time to my family and as well for myself. I would appreciate it if you will give me a chance for this role. I am looking forward to hearing your prompt response.
Yours faithfully

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.5
You have addressed all three bullet points in the prompt. You explained your suitability by mentioning your experience as a childcare assistant and your language tutoring. You also suggested additional help, such as meal preparation and teaching life skills, and provided clear reasons for wanting the job. The tone is appropriate for a formal letter. To improve, ensure you address the recipients by name if possible, or use a more standard formal opening like 'Dear Mr and Mrs [Surname],' as 'Dear Sir or Madam' is typically reserved for when the recipient's name is unknown. Overall, the response is well-focused and meets the requirements of the task.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5
The letter is logically organized, with each paragraph focusing on a specific aspect of the prompt. You use some cohesive devices such as 'Firstly', 'Also', and 'Along with that' to connect your ideas. However, the progression between sentences could be smoother. For example, the transition between your experience and the additional tasks you can perform is a bit abrupt. To reach a higher band, try to use a wider range of linking words and ensure that your paragraphing is clearly defined. The current structure is functional and easy to follow, which is sufficient for a Band 6.0.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.5
You have an adequate range of vocabulary to communicate your points clearly. You use relevant terms like 'childcare assistant', 'practical skills', and 'balanced diet'. There are some minor errors in word choice, such as 'I had a prior experience' (should be 'I have prior experience') and 'private tution classes' (spelling error). To improve, aim to incorporate more precise collocations and ensure accurate spelling. While your vocabulary is sufficient for the task, it lacks the variety and sophistication required for higher bands. Focusing on more natural phrasing will help you progress.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
You demonstrate a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. However, there are several grammatical errors that occur throughout the text, such as 'I am working from last 10 years' (should be 'I have been working for the last 10 years') and 'If you have your's schedule busy' (incorrect possessive). These errors are frequent but do not impede the overall meaning of your letter. To improve, pay closer attention to verb tenses and the correct use of possessives. Increasing your control over these basic structures will significantly improve your score.
