Student answer (Band 7.0)
Dear Kushal and Siya,
I hope you are doing well. While going through the job hunting, I came across your advertisement for a teacher, who can teach your children any other language other than English. It would be great opportunity for me to help your children to learn a new language.
Although, I don't belong to this teaching field, I have some experience from the past about teaching as I had personal coaching classes at my home for small children. I can teach French to your children, as this language is growing so fast and it is being used all over the world. Additionally, I have a certificate of clearing the French course from a university, which you might consider.
Moreover, I can come to your place and give lesson to your kids, in this case you don't have to worry about rearranging your schedules at work. This would benefit you as well your kids because the learning would be done in their own time.
I am ready to start this job as soon as possible, as I need some financial support to manage my expenses and also it will help me use my free time in a useful manner.
Best regards,
Riya.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.5
The letter addresses all three bullet points required by the prompt. You clearly explain your suitability by mentioning your past coaching experience and French certification. You also suggest a practical benefit for the family by offering to travel to their home, and you provide personal reasons for wanting the job. The tone is appropriate for a formal letter to a couple. To reach a higher band, ensure that your ideas are slightly more developed; for instance, you could elaborate on how your teaching style would specifically benefit their children, rather than just stating you have the experience.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.5
The letter is well-organized with clear paragraphing. Each paragraph focuses on a specific aspect of the prompt, which helps the reader follow your logic. You use some cohesive devices such as 'Although', 'Additionally', and 'Moreover' to link your ideas. However, the transition between the introduction and the body could be smoother. Some of the cohesive devices feel slightly mechanical. To improve, try to vary your linking phrases and ensure that the flow between sentences feels more natural rather than just listing points.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.5
You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task. Phrases like 'job hunting', 'financial support', and 'rearranging your schedules' are used correctly. However, there are some minor inaccuracies in word choice, such as 'certificate of clearing the French course', which would be more naturally expressed as 'a certificate in French' or 'a qualification in French'. The vocabulary is sufficient to convey your meaning clearly, but it lacks the range of less common or more precise lexical items that would be expected at a higher band level.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.5
You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While most of your sentences are clear, there are some grammatical slips, such as 'It would be great opportunity' (missing an article) and 'as well your kids' (missing 'as'). Additionally, the sentence 'While going through the job hunting' is slightly awkward. Despite these errors, your meaning is always clear, and the errors do not impede communication. To improve, focus on article usage and prepositional phrases to ensure your complex sentences are error-free.
