Student answer (Band 5.5)
The idea of building a public facility center has generated considerable discussion among the neighbors. I firmly believe that option A represents a more appropriate alternative due to numerous health benefits attached to swimming activities.
It is beyond doubt that swimming pool offers a plethora of benefits to the individuals of all age groups, enabling them to unwind themselves after busy days by enjoying various activities at different times. Accordingly, youngsters have year-round access to fitness and swimming classes, which will culminate in their overall development, making them more self-disciplined.
Although a library brings various facilities such as quiet study rooms and community gathering spaces to the public, it often has a noisy atmosphere during the peak hours, leading to a lack of focus. By the same token, most public libraries have strict rules and fines for those people, who do not return the books on time.
Based on the reasons outlined above, I maintain that the swimming pool offers more advantages in terms of physical fitness and mental satisfaction.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5
The response is completely off-topic. The task required a letter to a couple in Australia applying for a job as a language teacher. Instead, the student wrote an essay arguing for the construction of a swimming pool over a library. Because the response fails to address any of the bullet points or the required format (a letter), it cannot be assessed as a successful completion of the task. It does not meet the requirements of the prompt in any capacity.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5
While the text itself is internally coherent and uses cohesive devices like 'Accordingly' and 'Although' to link ideas, it is entirely irrelevant to the task instructions. The paragraphing is logical for an essay, but since the task was to write a letter, the structure is inappropriate for the requested genre.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
The vocabulary used is actually quite sophisticated, including terms like 'plethora', 'culminate', and 'self-disciplined'. However, because the content is completely unrelated to the task, the lexical range is not being used to fulfill the communicative purpose of the prompt. The language is accurate, but it is misapplied.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
The student demonstrates a good command of complex sentence structures, such as 'Although a library brings various facilities... it often has a noisy atmosphere'. There is a good mix of simple and complex sentences, and the grammatical accuracy is high. However, the score is limited because the language is not being used to address the task prompt.
